Bowl-U was a bad trade. Not trading the UFAs would be a bad non-trade. I don't know if many people can really lover Botts yet, he hasn't done anything to love. This is still Murray's team with a new coach.

And the other 6 incidents since he's been in the league?

Not sure why we're upset with the haul, not like Kane is a prolific scorer. He scores 20-30 a year and is very hot and cold. Like people said, he's a UFA who is going to want to get paid and he's a guy who everyone knows for not the best reasons.

The trade makes sense, we got more than we would have if they let him walk like Kulikov, and since no one here knows what we were offered in December, that's not even worth having a conversation about. Furthermore, don't pretend teams were head over heels when he was scoring at a great pace earlier. He's always been a streaky guy, no GM is going "wow, he's got 5 goals in 3 games, he'll definitely keep that pace up for the rest of his career and throwing two 1sts at Buffalo is a bargin".

It's a disappointing return, no other way around it. If he walks from SJ, then their 2nd rounder we get will be most likely in the 50s, the prospect we received looks like career AHLer, and a 4th (we all know what a 4th is worth) The waiting and high asking price most likely screwed us.

Kane is a selfish player. His off ice antics are most definitely a concern to GM's, even if he as been clean for a short duration. Also talks of him lashing out in the locker room. His on-ice play is something I would like to have on this team, but it isn't worth what he will be asking. I am not sure any other GM's would have gotten more for him in this situation. We got something, better than him walking. The last few weeks, his interviews were (in my opinion) unprofessional. I get he tried to always end with, 'I am doing what I can for the Sabres now', but any athlete is smart enough to do that. In general, he shouldn't be discussing the trade bologna with the media. It shows his apparent lack of commitment, and he also is throwing the organization under the bus by acknowledging it all. Keep it in the back office. I think it shows immaturity. I wouldn't want his attitude in the lockerroom-- because yes that goes a long way. As a former professional athlete, the best teams I have ever been on succeeded because of a tight team, while the most talented teams I played on stunk! I am glad to have Kane gone after weighing all factors.

Side note- I was told from a source that he 'thinks' we may have gotten Reilly. He knows we were one of top 2 bids. Be curious to find out. It's been really hard getting reliable information with new management.
