I'll say >60% He'll have suitors, but he's established here, we gave him a shot, and he'll probably have a close to guaranteed spot on the roster next season. We also have to cap space to maybe overpay him a bit. I'm not sure if he'll find a better situation/offer out there for him. But if it's about winning now, than he's gone. - sskkoo1
The opportunity to play is the only real reason for him to stick around...and maybe money. I can't imagine "established here" and "we gave him a shot" mattering in the least. |

two completely different teams, and two completely different players. jack would have been a number one overall in most draft years, he was a grown man size at 18, and was fast enough to skate around everyone in college. casey is not that, he is 200lbs but still built more like a kid and doesnt skate nearly as well as jack. dont get me wrong he isnt slow but nobody would say he skates like jack. jack also uses a long stick while casey uses an overly short one, they look completely different in that regard. where he is going to make his money is with the puck on his stick in the offensive zone. he is really really good at knowing where everyone is on the ice and he will slow down the play, draw attention from defenders and when they least expect it he will just feather a filthy little saucer pass through like 3 guys right to the open guy in the slot or on the off post. the problem he is having now is not only are the defenders not expecting it, neither are his linemates. he catches them asleep regularly, its kind of funny and sad at the same time actually. you can teach strength, and skating. you cant teach filthiness. his handle is filthy. im not epecting a ton his first year but im excited to watch him on the big club asap. - TheHank
Right. I agree with your post here. I was just stating that you can't simply say Casey is not as good as Jack because Jack had more ppg in college. Casey and Jack were on two completely different teams. Jack might have been surrounded by better talent while at Boston U, thus the higher ppg.
In the end, I think we see Casey as our 2C, not Jack's winger. Casey seems too creative and skilled with the puck not to be at center. We'll find better wingers for both of them over the next year or two, I'm sure.

I hold on to hope every year.
I don't know how many rebuilds I will be around for.
I loathe Murray for being totally incompetent and screwing this fan base further. |

Probably not, but some people are appreciative and loyal, so you never know what all the reason will be why he choose to stay. Just as long as he stays is the only thing that matters, though. We're so thin on defense, that now that we found a low percentage guy that looks like he might beat the odds, we can't afford for him to leave as well. |

im not throwing punches here. i am reallllly high on casey.
he is not as good as jack was at the same age. i will just say it. jack was a (frank)ing beast wonderchild at 18.
they just have 2 completely different skill sets. jack scored a lot on the rush in college, casey scores down low with the play set up.
casey is definitely a center through and through. the sabres might put him at wing for a year but he will be a center. ROR is gonna be really butt hurt when that happens, which is why imo we should ship his ass out of town before that day comes. |

I also believe Casey at center will be the reason why o'reilly will be traded eventually. Hopefully ROR can bring back some decent pieces. |

No way on earth Botts gets anything of value for ROR. Doesn't score enough, too big of a contract, off ice issues...
Maybe a candidate to be waived or bought out though. |

Isles traded for 2 players who were on waivers this season, one for a 3rd round pick
They had the worst deadline and you can't say tavaras will be too thrilled that it looks like another lost season |

What chance do you guys give the Sabres to sign Casey Nelson? Sabres vs 30 teams seems like bad odds. Maybe he's not good enough to truly be upset about losing, but he was a rare player on this team that I had a modicum of fun watching get better. - PrinceChill
buffalo offers him the best opportunity to skate in the top-four consistently than almost any team...they may also offer him more money and a longer term than any other team...doesn't mean he'd sign with the sabres, but they have that much going for them. |

next year's another evaluation/throw-away year then, I believe, the cba is up and there will be another lockout...2020 isn't that far away and for us older folks, time does move faster as we get older...
think of it, seems like it was just last week that Pegula bought the sabres |
