What do you see as a realistic return for ROR? - PrinceChill
Not sure why we're all talking about trading O'Reilly. Sure, he's overpaid, but he'd be overpaid by the acquiring team too = problem. There are a lot bigger problems with the Sabres than O'Reilly.
Do the Sabres recall Moulsen now, with Kane gone? Might be a better option than pulling someone up from Rochester. I would have liked them to claim a couple of waiver guys so we could have sent some of the kids back to Rochester. |

Eh not really, If its lottery protected we don't get it if they win the lottery,
We do if they don't.
Say Kane resigns
My question is, if SJ falls apart, but doesn't win the lottery, and picks 6th does the pick then become ours?
Because that is how I read it. - ImThatGuy
I believe "lottery protected" means that if the pick falls within the lottery, they have the option to defer. It's definitely a 2019 pick if they make the playoffs next year. If they don't make the playoffs, they have the choice to defer. So if they're like, 14th OA, they might just say (frank) it. |

I'd want a 1st round pick or a good defensive prospect that was close. |

So again to recap, its not "Yes but if they sign him the first becomes a 2019 but if the sharks say hey we're going to keep this pick becomes a first in 2022" - ImThatGuy
I already said I was wrong about the year and I apologize |

Are they allowed to trade the pick at the deadline? With doing that they lose the clues with lottery protection

I heard yesterday that conditional picks that haven't had their conditions fulfilled were not able to be traded, but I'm not even sure if that's right.
I wouldn't see a reason why the conditions wouldn't be fulfilled if the pick was traded. It would have no effect on the Sharks.
Edit- I wouldn't see a reason why trading conditional picks would be off limits. But then the team inheriting the conditional pick would know, hey, there's a huge difference between a lottery protected first, a late first, and early 2nd and a late 2nd. I don't think any team would want that, at least unless you know it's a 1st or 2nd.
it would be like you're conditionally trading a conditional pick, and you owe more picks if the conditions on the initial pick are not fulfilled. Gross. |

Looking at ROR's deal, after his big july 1 payment this year, his salary will be lower than his cap hit for the remainder of his deal.
In cash terms its basically a 4 year 20 million dollar deal. Kind of reminds me in a way of kessel's situation with Toronto. The obstacle to him being traded was a massive bonus, which toronto paid then traded him to Pittsburgh.
ROR's entire deal is more or less bonus structured but the biggest chunk of it will have been paid by July 1 2018. Makes him much more lucrative to other teams |

I knew he took a bit of a cut this year, but that's substantial. There are teams with self imposed caps like Minnie or Ana who would probably value that.
RoR still has value, I'm just of the mind that if we're blowing it up a 2nd time here, we need to trade him, Scandella, Okposo and Lehner for futures. Some will be better than others, but I'd wager RoR could actually get us that quality D-prospect we desperately need. |

I took the PC yesterday, as Botts is looking to blow it up.
No one is safe other that 15 on the current roster. |

Based on his press conference yesterday and the way he has been talking to day it seems like he is going for a FULL rebuild.
He mentioned plenty of off season moves yesterday and has repeated that today: something about i had plenty of great conversations that will help at the draft.
I think he sees the writing on the wall, knows we wont compete for a few more years, and I think he wants to move everyone out that will be not part of that core moving forward.
That includes RoR and okpo regardless of their play or contract. No matter how good they are now by the time we can compete they will be in their 30s |

Liked how he justified it as they don't deserve to be rewarded as a whole. Reports sound correct that Kane wasn't negotiated with at all. However, I'm SURE Botts and Kane's agent had discussions on contract expectation. |

I like ROR. Many here don’t. If league-wide perception of him is anything like it is here, we couldn’t possibly get much for him. He’s just a “face-off specialist”. |

Helps when your starting goalie makes under 4 mil and your top 9 forwards are still on entry level deals. They positioned themselves very well for the next couple of years |

I like RoR most of the time also, but when we are a competitive team, he has that same contract and is at best a third line player |

Maybe jbotts asked his longtime friend pommer what he thought of kane's attitude.
Maybe they do not want Kane at all.
He was probably hard to trade.
Jerk off = no contract talks
