don't - TheSabresTaco
This one i stand by, not trading a chance at a potential top 5 d-man in the league just so we can rush poop again |

Question: Sabres win the draft lottery, should they consider a trade for #2 overall and next years 1st (from other team) as well as one of their RFA players that can help right away?
I know we need a top D man, but if you can get another top player and a top 9 forward or top 4 young D man too (and maybe a 1st in 2019) do you consider that move? I do, not sure which way I go though. - Lilroot9
i think you gotta think about it.. maybe if that RFA is a #4 dman.. but passing on a franchise Dman is a tough move to make |

I think GMJB has made it abundantly clear that there will be no shortcuts anymore.
We are the case study for what shortcuts can do to a rebuild |

If Ottawa is picking #2 and they offer Karlsson and we also sign JT as a FA is the only way I would move out of #1. So to answer you in short form, No |

If we win the lottery and trade down we will be looking for a new GM immediately |

There are only a few true franchise Dmen in the league, if you get your hands on one, you take it and run. Dahlin is projected to be franchise and even a cut above. If he reaches 75% of his potential he turns whatever team he is on to a perennial playoff contended--SC contender. No way we pass on him.
Zadina and Svech are real good, and we could use a scoring winger for jack, but they're easier to trade for than Dahlin. |

Karlsson, Jack, and JT = 35 Million in cap space, we'll be in cap hell and will watch everyone else walk when they can't get paid. I won't work. Dahlin is the next Karlsson and by drafting him you get him cheap on a ELC for 3 years. Karlsson has slowed due to injury and his price is just going up, stay with Dahlin. |

Compher?
not that we kept him, but i believe he was supposed to be high skilled but considered too small and somethign else was wrong with him too i thought.
or was that Cat? - IndianaSabresFan
he was drafted as a two-way player with an offensive touch, if I recall correctly...
Daniel cacciatore was a speed demon that never could make the transition to the pro game |

Compher's development credit should go to Colorado, they've had him for the past 3 years now. If we'd had held on to him he'd probably be C. Hurley by now. |

it was just to meat to express that I hope we wouldn't move out of the spot. Who do you mean by everyone else would walk? No one is worth keeping at this point |

Would rather have Karlsson, Jack, and JT at 35 Million, then Jack, ROR, Okposo and Pom at 30M~ |

Guhle and Mittelstadt at least should end up being quality NHLers, they'll need to be paid at some point. And, we never know who might step up over the next few season's. Maybe Nylander turns it around, PU looks likes he could be a very solid addition, or even a guy like Baptiste could be in the 20 goal club a year or two from now. |

buy no means do I think we should try and speed this rebuild up again, but the chances of all those players developing is slim to none in this organization. |

I don't want all the guys we have now either, no one does. But, I'll take Jack, JT, and Dahlin. Leave out Karlsson, move RoR for a winger or the best Dman we can get for him. I wish we didn't sign Okposo, but he's not terrible, and I think we're stuck with him. Waive Pommers and buy him out. |

Right, in this organization hopes of development are slim, but I'm just saying we need to have cap room to fill out the rest of the roster. Having 3 guys take 50% of the cap space, I just don't see that working too well. |

No reason to buy out Pom. One year left, trade him at next years deadline for a 1st (I mean 2nd), 4th and C prospect

having eichel and ror as centers |

No, there's no need to buy him out. I just meant buy him out if there were to be a play for either JT or Karlsson and they needed to save a little cap space. But I would retain 50% of his contract and trade him if there ever was an offer. |

Every dominant center has a top-notch winger with him, ala Lafontaine/Mogilny. But our current wingers blow. Jack's proven he can make players he's with better, but they're just too low quality. |
