He's a better player then Glenn - SABRES 89
I would disagree. Glenn is younger and more talented. However, availability is key, and replacing Glenn with Solder at a quarter of the cost would be a huge win. |

Player x stinks and player x doesnt move the needle are two very different things, at least to me.
Girgensons stinks
Reinhart doesn't move the needle - Sabresfan-365
We all agree that they moved way too soon on grabbing guys like Kane and ROR.
However, if they are going to be bad next year close to what they are this year, isn't the idea to keep the good players you have like ROR, Reinhart, and Risto instead of offloading them for more picks?
I'm not saying they are untouchable, only the return would need to be giant for them for it to make total sense.
I say that in this context: I understand the fascination of 5v5 play as the ultimate judgment or indictment, of the quality of a player, but I look at 5v5 as a team stat first, and a player stat second in terms of if a team is strong overall, the 5v5 play of players will be better across the board (for the most part, not an absolute of course) while if the team is weak overall (lack of depth plus a need for more impact players), the 5v5 play will be lacking. With that mindset, it feels like only the true elite can move the 5v5 needle on their own without need of any other supporting players.
I'd have to do a bunch of research I have zero time for to confirm that, but it sure seems that way when looking up the stats, especially with players like ROR who has many more points at even strength then 5v5.
With guys like Risto, Sam, and to a lesser degree ROR, their higher level of production outside of 5v5 shows me they are good players that would benefit from more talent being added to the roster. |

As of today, Nylander's PPG stats have improved from last year. Minimally. A strong finish to the season could really be a nice 20% boost from last season. |

Risto is a great 2nd pairing defender at this point. Maybe his defense improves, maybe it doesn't. He's 23. ROR playing 2C is right where he should be, and he's doing well enough. Reinhart has also picked up his play since Jan 1 and is now performing at an acceptable bar.
As you've stated, all 3 players would heavily benefit from more players able to play roles that are advanced from the above listed, especially the former 2.

Hopefully these guys get some AHL playoff time under their belts and make a run for it. Would be a great confidence booster but as of lately, but they are in a slump.
Matty Mouslon is tied for 2nd in points on the Reign, and 1 point from 1st.
The guy he's tied with has played 16 more games. |

im trying to figure out where the disconnect is.
We spent tons of assets and dollars to bring in game changers/needle movers and they haven't done that and it's exactly why this team isn't good (not the only reason but it'd be at or near the top of the list)
I don't believe anyone is saying these guys suck, thats people taking it to the extreme. I still believe ROR, Risto and Reinhart are good complimentary players, but you can't load up on complimentary guys and then say okay now lets go after the core guys. That ass backwards building is how you get miracle runs to 9th place. - Sabresfan-365
I’m trying to figure it out as well.
O’Reilly played 25 (!!) minutes yesterday. Did nothing 5 on 5, again. Was 40% on the dot, but we won, because the Lightning decide to take a moronic penalty with 19 seconds left. So 90 gets on the scoresheet by accident almost and people talk about this dude like he’s so important going forward.
If I hear about how bad our bottom six is one more time, while they continue to have the best scoring chances or only even strength goals every game, I’m going to puke
Meanwhile, Larsson gets routinely dumped on, even though he’s constantly drawing penalties it seems, which leads to our only goals from our top 6 players.
It’s getting laughable.
Fun fact- whipping boys Girgensons and Larsson have drawn a combined 20 penalties st 5 on 5 this season. While playing hundreds of less minutes than guys like O’Reilly and Kane. Sam Reinhart leads with 17 drawn
Our bottom 6 actually leads to a decent amount of our top 6’s points

Happy to see him playing better but He need to do it for the rest of the year and the playoff's in the AHL... we've seen stretches of someone playing okay before.... But FINALLY he is starting to show something, we really do need him to pan out.

I think we'll hear a lot about his struggles during the offseason. The hows and whys and so on and so fourth. There's no doubt he needs to turn the corner for good, but it's way, way too early to give up on him. Turns 20 tomorrow. Not what you would expect from an 8th overall but you can't forget about how much talent the kid has. 2 years left after this season on his entry level deal. Next year is a must-improve-a lot year for him. Still has a lot of potential value.
I firmly believe that his injury really (frank)ed up his season. Up to him to prove that it did. I have cautious optimism. - TheSabresTaco
3 years left. His ELC slides again this year, assuming he doesn't play 10 NHL games.
