Ya I know...doesn't make it correct though. I'm sure Bettman is a sharp lawyer and all but he has sacrificed a lot of the integrity of the game satisfying his 'core' of American ownership. Watering down the talent even more isn't what's required regardless of expansion cash. Moving those teams that can't draw should be the priority IMO but that's just me. - LordHumungous

Sure, I get where you're coming from
But his job is to make money for the owners, not satisfy hockey purists who don't want teams in Arizona/Florida/Carolina/Etc.
If billionaires keep offering to build these shiny new arenas in big cities and pay these insane expansion fees, he'd be a fool not to do it.

Which, IMO, is why he's a fool not to let another team in the GTA happen |

Leafs have to give permission, they'd be idiots to do it. Unless Bettman offers them something in return under the table lol. |

Agreed. Seattle was always desirable for conference balance, reduce travel for pacific teams, but it also had a limited window where the city bonds were available for arena construction.
The alternatives (Quebec, Toronto, Hamilton, Kansas City, Portland etc.) are options that will always be available since their facilities exist. This was essentially an 'if it doesnt happen now, it may never happen' situation with the city's money since the NBA wont be coming back within the window either |

Leafs permission!? seems a bit preposterous. Were the Rangers Asked about the Devils? LA about Sanjos eand Anahiem? No, I think not. |

Don't forget that the league is profit sharing. So individual profits don't matter. |

Not sure sorry. I don't see a lot of screaming on twitter - VANTEL
Just read the CA post, because of age they waited until afternoon the trade deadline so that his contract doesnt start until next year, AND, if he returns to the WHL it does slide.

I really hope we keep him. He has been getting better and better recently. Been looking like the ideal 3rd line player and could still become a decent 2nd liner. |

The Leafs have a long-standing agreement i think100 mile radius. It is wht Kitchener-Waterloo was considered by Balsillie and yeas Devils i believe paid a fee to Rangers, so did Islanders |

Its not entirely clear, but there is some contention over territorial rights. 50 mile radius from commercial city limits

I remember reading an article about it being in the league bylaws, the arena has to be a certain distance away from another NHL one or else the existing team has to sign off on it.

Yeah, that’s how I read it. Can be assigned to the AHL or play an overage year in WHL. |
