Dahlin at 18 and entry level money>>>OEL at massive extension, were a few years away anyways. Dahlin could very well end up the better player too. - Sabresfan-365
Yeah, you're probably right. Like Cong said, it never happens anyway. I think the Sedins were the closest thing to it |

i can see the allure of the concept, but its the same temptation that did murray in (speeding things up). |

I don't hate the idea. Say we're #1 and the Coyotes are 2.
OEL(has to be open to an extension), Domi and 2 for #1?
Full disclosure, I've never watched Dahlin play - jcragcrumple
The Yotes would never do that though
I doubt they’d even do OEL + their pick for #1
Even just Domi + #2 for Dahlin might be a stretch |

I would definitely do that if i were the yotes. you get the best player in the deal and form a dahlin-ekman larsson pairing? seems like a huge win. |

Sure but the debate was always is Dahlin>>>> OEL+Domi+whomever is drafted at 2?
Dahlin is the better talent (arguably) but one player doesn't instantly change the fact that this franchise doesn't have a winger to play with Eichel and doesn't have a true #1 defensemen
A trade like this would get you a true number 1 defensemen and 2 wingers that could play with Eichel
I am not saying I would make the trade but I would definitely be open to it |

Kinda crazy to predict it now,
but i do think Dahlin will be better than OEL
Although OEL might look even better on his next team |

Leaves them void of talent up front though
Actually...
idk why the Yotes would even want to trade up?
Sign OEL, then add one of the top wingers to help their offense |

Id still say that it is. we're talking about a guy that could be more impactful than eichel. there are very few deals id consider. |

Dahlin would be what the equivalent of having Karlsson?
OEL is a 45-55 point defensemen (maybe even more playing on a team with Eichel)
Domi should be a 20 goal scorer
Whoever drafted at 2 should be a 25-30 goal scorer
IDK you'd get a cost protected winger for 3 years
A stud defensemen (the contract is the tricky part I agree)
A 2nd line winger
or one Erik Karlsson cost protected for 3 years
What if you did something like OEL Domi and 2nd overall for Bogo and 1st overall? |

i mean, probably. There's just something about having that "next" one and the high end talent.
OEL is legit but if we're talking Karlsson 2.0...God thats hard to pass up on even if it rids us of bogo. |

Well think of the type of package Ottawa would want for Karlsson
I get the entire cost controlled thing for 3 years especially with the teams salary issue with players like Moulson and Bogo still on the cap.
I am try to speed it up (but not giving away the farm) in the process.
You'd get Domi to play with Eichel and OEL to take over Risto's minutes plus a top prospect in the draft (1st forward taken)
Then of course not having Bogo here
Believe me taking Dahlin would be huge and probably the way I would go, but if Botterill is this cap genius this would be one helluva way to get more high end talent here and shed a bad contract. |

For me the sticking point would be OEL's potential contract. I see the team being a few years away even with this move so you've to wonder what you're paying and for what type of production.
if OEL asks for Eichel money, and this team starts competing when he's 28 or 29, how many 10 million dollar(or thereabouts) type of years are you getting from him. 2? 3 max maybe?
Edit: My hate for bogo is making it a lot easier though |

but i can’t imagine any way ARZ would do anything even close to that |

For sure the contract part with OEL is tricky
Say you're able to negotiate would 8 years $8 million per for OEL make it better?
Basically $2.85 million more than Bogo
Granted I am not sure that would get it done for OEL but I think that would be a good price to get him at. |

Yeah that probably makes it better. Helps us realize why these deals are few and far between. Lots of things have to go right |

I don’t think it even makes sense for ARZ to want to trade up though
If they just keep OEL, they’re set in defense
Then just draft whichever Winger they like best to help up front |
