No more overpriced older free agents.
We have that covered. Unless we are close to a cup

- Boss34

Agreed need to save our money for the Drew Doughty , Erik Karlsson party next year ..

I don't see it happening but imagine both those going to free agency

But if we can get JT then sign him lol

Ok, but who's taking these contracts?

Why move them unless your getting back 2 (55) point players? Ror and okposo are good second line players, even on a playoff team. We are not in cap trouble.

We're going to be competing for a playoff spot next year

- Boss34

I agree. Whether that's attainable or not is debatable, but I firmly believe that's their goal

I don't agree with retooling we need to completely destroy this roster and start with Jack, Casey,2018 pick
It's time to finally build through the draft and Ryan O'Reilly and Kyle and ristolainen will help us get picks to build the franchise right

- gerbe75pts

I'm not trying to debate what you think they should do, I'm trying to point out that no one in a position of power has a desire to go scorched Earth

You, me and Kaiser seem to think we are going to be good.

No way they intentionally tank next year.

This year is by design, mainly because Sam and Nylander aren't that top talent. They maybe nhl players, but you need stars to win.

So we're going to retool and just be good for one year and then be back in this situation?

I do not see that happening it's most likely going to be two to three years before we hit playoffs

I don't see any way we make the playoffs next year maybe we'll be out of the top five but there's so much work to be done with this roster

How would we be back in this situation though. Trading Risto at 23 for futures does nothing to help this team. You have to have players around for after the rebuild. Trading away everyone who was good in order to tank was a major problem for the rebuild, along with squandering assets. And to some extent I understand the argument that ROR should be traded because by the time we're good, he'll be older, but on the other hand, having him makes you better now. Ownership is done sucking, Botts likes the player and fans are fed up. I think a full rebuild is totally misguided, but that's beyond the point. The point is that no one is ready to tolerate purposeful sucking

There are so many factors between now and the season, but looking at some indicators and possible moves gives me hope. Down the middle, potentially:

Eichel
ROR
Stastny/Backlund
ERod

Then there are the wingers. Can Mittelstadt/Nylander/Baptiste/Bailey play meaningful, productive minutes. Do we get Dahlin? How good is Guhle? How good is Ullmark? We don't know yet, but if things shake out right, I think it could be a surprising year

I agree, jbotts has some flexibility with the roster.

College ufas
He has some tricks up his sleeve.

2018 pick if it's a star forward
Nylander ? Trade or become a man in the nhl?
Guhle is an nhl player, top 3 ????
Ullmark and Chad in goal???

College UFAs will probably need AHL time before the nhl
2018 pick if top 3 could be a stud
Nylander as anything more than meh if he even gets to the nhl is a reach
Guhle in the top 3
Ullmark and Chad will be inconsistent but i have hope in Ullmark

The problem is he’s not a QB
- gerbe75pts

Why is Lamar Jackson not a QB?

Why is Josh Allen not being asked to workout at TE?

its because Josh Allen is white, End of Story.

Oh for (frank)s sake....the race card..really?? Tim Tebow was asked to switch to TE/WR/HB...DeShaun Watson was always considered a QB...Jackson is being asked to switch positions because he's not as good as the other 4 top QBs in the draft. End of Story.

EDIT: The list of black QBs who were NOT asked to switch positions is a mile long.

Stop it, teams tried getting Tim Tebow to play TE and he won a NFL playoff game

This race card crap needs to stop.

Some teams don't see him projecting as a NFL QB, some do.

Nobody asked Cam Newton to switch positions

Nobody asked Jameis Winston to switch positions

Nobody asked Donovan McNabb to switch positions.

I like the less likely scenario for the Broncos

Acquire Tyrod Glenn and picks (probably pick 22 and a 2nd next year IMO) for #5 overall

That's an interesting way to get to the top 5

Sign Bradford for a year, draft Mayfield at 5 and still have another pick in the 1st

backlund signed an extension. FA isn't the way to go here no matter what your goal for next year is.

Not to find true core players but I think you can find some decent depth and secondary scoring if you play your cards right (Thomas Vanek comes to mind)

Oops, my bad. The list I used was a little old. I would consider Eller or Desharnais on a 1 year deal. Our 3C position is terrible. Theres no harm in bringing in a 1-year FA. Worst case scenario, they walk, or you trade at the deadline

Lehner like it or not has cost us 10 Points or more this season alone.
He's terrible

The college free agents have a hard time jumping directly to the nhl, but it does happen.
I give you that one.

I'm guessing that mitts over griffith will add some points.
The power play should be better.
Eichel hopefully won't miss 20 games
Kane won't be distracting anyone
Guhle should be at least a top 4-5 defenseman, better than gorges, Tennyson, blowgo , bowl u ect.

All this, should add way more points.
How many 1 goal losses and empty net losses did we have?

part of playing those cards right is to have an actual core in place so as to not have to play those depth guys in the top 6/top 4.

I don't see the need pursue anyone other than college/euro FA's and low risk/high reward deadline flips during free agency.

Even if everything falls exactly right with Dahlin, guhle, mittelstadt, ullmark etc. they're all young rookies. There going to be growing pains and they'll need time for pro development.
