Sounds like Tomas(we should have got a 2nd)Vanek, is having a bit of a rough go of it in Columbus.
3 games, zero points, just over 1 minutes per game and -1 per game(-3).

He will be untradeable next year.

If he wanted to play in Van, would you do league minimum for one year with a full NMC?

I wouldn't give him any NTC but I wouldn't be against bringing him back....although I don't want it to inter with a spot for youth...If the Sedin's are gone I would 100% welcome him back. He is a fun player to watch

not Vanek's fault. Him and Boeser were the only bright spots on this dark season. Well that and finding out Green's mom is pulling the organizational strings and influencing Aquilini.

Are Vinty and I the only posters that will miss the breakaway slappers?

I suggested kicking the tires on Vanek this summer depending on his return at the TDL and if he would do the same contract again. He didn't get a very good return and sounds like he wants NTC protection if returning so it's a big fat no for me.

It's not Vanek's or Bennings fault. They put together a good contract that could have helped the Canucks more at the TDL. It's a gamble. I'd take a similar contract on a fresh player this summer and try again. Why not. Not Vanek though.

I agree with this.

Hopefully a lesson learned about signing similar vets in the future

Just sold my last pair of tickets for the 7s so I'm happy as poop, now for a Canuck loss, a Sabre win, Senators win and a 3 pt game for Oilers and Coyotes

What is the lesson? Honest question, no shade.

Although we were all disappointed with the return, i'd still do that deal again (in the past, not next year).
He exceeded expectations, fit nicely with Sedin's and Brock, scored some sweet goals and brought a modest return at the TDL.

I don't think he was taking up anyone's roster spot either. All the youngins were in/out all season. If Goldobin had excelled this year and been forced to sit because of Vanek taking his spot, i'd see the negative side, but given how things played out...i got noooooo, no regrets.

To target sign and flips who don’t have a rep for being lazy and disappearing in big games.

You can find guys like Motte on waivers every year, the return was nothing.

I agree with you that he helped Brock offensively. Hardly a disaster signing, but he did get PP time + soft minutes, something we should reserve for the youth moving forward.

I still liked the signing in hindsight.

I'd be fine with another vet that got bought out next year in a similar situation (UFA).
