So if the Bills (or insert team here) trades for Foles, they will give him a contract extension right away, which would increase his cap hit. I guarantee that. - Lilroot9
I don't think they would have to do it right away though, worst case they franchise tag him (not that I think that would be a good idea) but if he lights it up in Buffalo then maybe he is the guy at least for the next 3 years.

Sam, Nylander, Guhle.
Not sure about the 2019 first - Boss34
Unless there is multiple 1st in the deal, the trade isn’t happening.
Gotta think of it as a 3 way deal (if ek is correct)
LA trades Doughty to team X for assets which are in turn partially used to send to Ottawa for Karlsson. |

If you’re trading for a guy with one year left to be the Starting QB, I’d think more than not an extension would be already in the works.

micro tank moves? You think Housley is sitting there trying to conceive ways to be worse off than we already are? I highly doubt it. We have a lot of significant injuries, along with absolutely nothing on the left side. Girgensons on the PP is as useless as Nolan. We're in bad shape. We have no depth. That's on past and present management. - TheSabresTaco
Housley exhausts all of his efforts and resources on trying to win .... just as Nolan and Bylsma did. Coaches simply do not have it in them to not try to win ............. |

I'm pretty sure Minnesota couldn't wait to get rid of pommer. Couple bad years.
I personally like him. Always have. Just an opinion.
Pretty sure if you are trying to build a cohesive locker room culture, he's a good guy to have.
Not sure you are adding pommer to win the cup this year
Kinda stealthytanky - Boss34
Pommer was a throw in to make the deal happen ........ nothing more. |

Especially being a former player. Thinking that anyone on ice level is trying to lose is insane.
The bottom line is that this team does not have the personnel and depth to even compete for a playoff spot. Our entire left side is made up of 4th liners. |

I don't disagree, but he is already under contract with a team friendly deal cap wise
Maybe throw a signing bonus on or something but they would want to keep that cap hit as low as possible this year with their lack of cap space this season.
Even cutting Tyrod they are still in cap hell for one more year |

Pominville is not a bad 3rd liner. He’s just too old to play 18 minutes in a top 6 at this point |

Thinking Botterill said "yeah, let's take a declining heavy contract so we can be worse and offset this Scandella move" is (frank)ing ridiculous.
Scandella is a nice piece to have. He needs to be added to. Guhle, Nelson, McCabe, Scandella, Ristolainen. All nice pieces. Need a Dahlin, or a Doughty, Josi, Karlsson, Lindholm, Chara, Suter et al. to pull them together. Some of the aforementioned on our team are replaceable, but we need a guy who isn't. And that's the hardest thing to get. |

The only difference is the NFL has the franchise tag as insurance, the NHL does not
A Doughty trade would def mean a team has an extension in place |

I dont see the sabres giving up even more future assets at this point, no matter what the target is.
GMJB is clearly just taking a good long look at everything in the organization and the standings and draft pick is just a bonus |

No one is arguing that the left side is made up of 4th liners. It's part if the plan.
What's your thought on jbotts?
You must hate him for assembling this group.
I think it's smart management to get another top draft pick. |

How about trading tyrod to Phili as part of the foles trade.
After the bonus due to tyrod.
Even if it's for a 7th to balance out the cap?
Phili gets a backup. |

Makes me wonder though. There HAS to be pressure to get better soon. Pegula is not going to sit around watching empty seats in the arena and season ticket renewals go down. But even more important is utilizing Eichel, ROR, Risto, etc. in the prime of their careers. |

They're going to cut or trade Tyrod regardless it does help but the Dareus contract is killing them this season |

I'm fully on board with taking it slow and improving through the draft.
anything to avoid another rushed rebuild that will crash and burn.
