Seriously, this is actually an understatement.

Edmonton is a great example of why you don't draft "role" players who aren't even top players on their junior teams and then somehow expect them to play a similar role in a way better league lol. Might as well just trade your picks if you're gonna waste them like that.

Didn't the Province or PITB do a mock canuck draft over the past 20 years and they got a receptionist to just pick the highest scouted/ranked prospect available. And she ended up with a better draft record (more NHL games played or something).

It was quite a statement on how bad our drafting has been. If I was an owner I would just fire the entire scouting staff and just go off the major scouting reports. Save some money anyway.

Literally any arbitrary draft method would have been better than the Canucks "professional scouting staff"

- Going by ISS rankings
- Simply drafting the highest point player in the CHL who's on the board(not including overage guys)

And I forgot what the 3rd method was, but is was equally as simple. All 3 methods destroyed the Canucks scouting staff lol

I can see why some of you guys complain about the local radio now lol. I only listen for Gilman's wednesday segments when I have the chance. I don't think I could stand an hour of guys like Imac and walker.

Sure, drafting was (is) an issue, but their farm system, ability to incorporate youth, etc etc has been bad for a long time. No guarantee that “better” players would have performed better here.

But - to Nuckers point, a guy playing 4th line in the WHL isn’t likely to have an impact in the NHL, no matter how hard he is “to play against”

If you want to punish yourself, check which teams around the league publishes its scouting staff online.

Then count all the dads, brothers, cousins and kids. It'll blow your (frank)ing mind.

Just so happened that as soon as Chiarelli, McLellan and Gretzky all got back into the fold with Edmonton that Chiarelli's brother, McLellan's dad and Gretzky's brother were added to the scouting staff.

Halford and Brough is all I can listen to. They're pretty fair on the team and also have the brains to mix in baseball, football, MLS, golf, UFC, etc. so they aren't just 3 hours a day of Canucks talk like a lot of the other shows in town.

I generally only bother with Sekeres and Price when they've got Gilman on or when they're interviewing Linden/Benning.

One of the Leafs blogs did a similar thing during the Nonis era. But it was "Could a potato better manage the salary cap than Nonis?" and it turned out that basically yes it could.
