Amazing how much wrong one person can jam into a post. Trading Hartman was a bad move from Bowman. There is no way in hell he ever deserved to be pressboxed when others were making just as many, if not more, gaffs all over the ice.
Q (frank)ed him over. Bowman moved him for a pick in hopes of finding a player that can play in the NHL in 3-5 years and a guy he couldn't let go in the Swede.
My money is on Hartman playing in this league longer than either the player drafted or the Swede. - TTtime
I would bet that you are probably right. Hartman was a situation mishandled. Hartman himself partly exasperated the situation with his stubbirn attitude. That attitude the GM and coach was well aware about...and whlie press box him occassioinally sends a message, Hartman was clearly mishandled. Too much reverance goes to Queeneville. For all his good qualities as a coach, he does honestly have bad points and he should not be retained. Let him scout and collect on his contract. Meanwhile, Bowman needs to get the right coach, enough grit and a couple big size guys in lineup. And he has to end the Pp fiasco running for many years. I think Bowman could possibly make some good moves but long term his history suggests too many bad moves may happen. |

Each column, each day usually don't have to go more than a page i see bitterness even extremism over the retention of either or both Queeneville and Bowman.
Sure there is fault on both. But please get a grip and accept the price you pay with long term winning teams.
* wear and tear
* salary cap issues
* attitude |

This.
Just take it as a compliment. Some people hate teams because of jealousy over years.
The Preds have a young, exciting team that I'd like to see win; well maybe not as much as I'd like to see the Lightning win it all. In this salary cap era, you have a small window to win it all. It's tough nuts if you don't, see Canucks, Flyers and Rangers as you have to rebuild all over again. |

i have heard enough of foley's commentary:
1. missed the net
2. turned it over
3. big save by______! - bogiedoc
Add his current harping in how the hawks are now “back to 2 games under .500”. Yes, let’s just disregard the games they lost in OT or in a SO. If they really just 2 games under .500 they might make the playoffs this year.
Don’t actually mind foley’s And Eddie O’s routine. I let the flow of the game speak for itself. The announcers are just a diversion. Besides, I think Chicago has a history of lighthearted announcing teams. My all-time favorite was Harry Casey and Jimmy Piersal doing the Sox in the 70’s.

Late 70's, Sox were in the process of sweeping a 4 game series against the Twins. Sunday game, hot weather, and I'm listening to Harry & Jimmy while painting my house. And some clown climbs up the foul pole. Harry said to Jimmy "if you weren't sitting right next to me I would have thought that was you up there". I almost fell off the ladder laughing.
There will never be another Harry. I think it's more Pat paying homage as Harry was a legend rather than trying to copy him. All inside sports people in Chicago miss him and have more than a few stories about hanging out with him. |

Ideally, the Hawks net 2 NHLers vs one in Edjsell and the mid-late 1st rounder. You know what you have in Hartman at his worst and it's a guy you need...gritty scorer. At his best he's a 20 goal 40-50 point physical forward. Maybe the Hawks get a future top pair Dman or Edjsell has high end offensive potential with his frame and hands?? I didn't like the move of the player, but the return could be pretty good. It was a #Tank move for this season, though.

Could be cause they have been spinning their wheels forever and are missing the PO again?
He is afraid to move any of his assets for something his team desperately needs. A big time player with some semblance of star power. - TTtime
How much was he allowed to spend? Carolina has the second lowest overall cap hit this year.

Well if they take a dman with the #1 then do not expect him to be rushed. Nor will be Jokiharju. The finn could show well camp and exhibition season but why shake his confidance by rushing him. I could see a few games start of season with Samuelson to guide, then skate at Rockford. The Forsling Rutta idea just means that one day both can play well here, just do not put two non physical guys in same pair. Anyway if we take a dman it sort of lends support to what Bowman said about seeing a lot of same faces back
That being the case i expect a hockey trade ie. the example would be the Saad/Panarin move. Should next season look like a repeat of this season, it would not be a surprise if Q takes a scouting role and steps down as coach. Bowman just says, do you want to coach this kind of team again? It makes you wonder, though, how McDonough would remain quiet. Perhaps Stan sold him on the idea of rebuild through draft. |

Late add: if Crawford not ready next fall i guess R Miller might be a cheaper than you think fall back plan. Or go with current tandem. Dellia has progressed but seriously he is not ready and how good is he really |

I was not so much referencing their presentation but those descriptions referencing what was going on the ice...hearing it to much means the play is bad... |

They were first seed in the west with (deep breath):
Hossa
Panarin
An effective Panik
Hartman basically scoring 20 goals
Hjalmarsson
Crawford &Darling
TVR as your "worst" d-man
Keith putting up 53 pts and Seabrook not being terrible (not good but not terrible for most of the year).
THIS year's team has nowhere near that kind of talent, ESPECIALLY on the back end and in goal - Chunk
Campbell & Oduya > the inexperience put out there this year for sure.
plus Kruger too |

Miller is not coming to Chicago. He was vocal for years he wanted to play in socal to be closer to his wife who is an actress and works out of LA. It's why he took the ducks backup gig in Anaheim when he clearly could have fought for a starting gig elsewhere. He's where he wants to be now and he's at the age and career income level where if he doesn't get picked up by Anaheim or LA again as a FA he is probably retiring |

And it's amazing how fans like you tell a story to fit your own narrative that just isn't true.
And talk about revisionist history - you people think Hartman is some star in waiting.
Let's talk fact - and this comes from someone that actually knows what was going on with him.
Hartman was a 30th overall pick - yes a first rounder, but not what you would call a "blue chip" prospect.
He spent a few underwhelming years at Rockford - his highlight reel film was starting trouble that lead to almost bench clearing brawls whenever they played the Wolves. He was considered an undisciplined and inconsistent player in the AHL, and it carried over to the NHL.
So let's move forward to his first year with the Hawks. Yes, he scored 19 goals his first season with the team, but let's be honest - how many of them were empty netters - I remember at least 4. And we are talking about a player with only 31 points in 76 games - not exactly lighting up the world.
Now we fast forward to last summer - when he decided to drop 10+ pound - so he could increase his speed game. He spent the summer practicing with Kane and Hinostroza - again, not the type of player they needed him to be.
Hawks management saw him as a Shaw replacement - someone that would agitate around the net, but is that what we really saw from him this year?? I saw a player too small and weak to be what was expected of him. I saw a player that disappeared for most of the season - and that was not on the coaches, or the G.M. - that was all on Ryan Hartman.
Most people here saw him as some kind of power forward in waiting - at around 180 pounds - I just don't get it. Even if he did throw his body around, we are not talking about hits that would leave many marks on the opponent.
So can we please get past this player??? He was an average 3rd-4th line player - and if he continues with the attitude in Nashville, he will be looking for his third team this summer. |

Thanks for that....i sort of remember it now that you mention it. My only idea was Anaheim cutting a salary plus Gibson had played well. |

A minor point but Hartman had 2 ENG last season.
Panarin had 4 of his 31 with no goalie, Kane (34) Hossa (26) and Toews (21) had 3 each. |

A power forward in my opinion plays a heavy game no matter what. Shaw scored when nobody else could because he was without fear even though he could not be classified as a power forward. With respect to all posters, Hartman picks his spots and is not the answer for a power forward gig. In my opinion Shaw was much more valuable than Hartman. I'm not going to speculate as to how long a players career is going to be, but i think Hartman can be replaced more easily than not. Shaw not so much. |

Carat was a very knowledgeable and astute broadcaster when he first appeared in town with the Sox in the early 70s (1971 or 72, if I recall correctly) after moving on from the cardinals. As time went on he went from being more of an observer of the game to more of an observer about himself. There is no denying that he became a beloved figure in this town and someone almost anyone would be happy to sit down with and share a brew or two. |

With only a brew or even two you wouldn't hear half of any story about Harry. Beloved is a great term for him. Don't forget that for most of his career here he didn't have much good to describe about what was happening on the field. I am a Sox fan my whole life, but a couple of the most unjust things I can think of are the fact that Steve Goodman and Harry never got to see the Cubs go to the Series much less win. And Goodman checked out just before the Cubs won the division for the first time. That was brutal. |

Not in the same way, but one young'n I see busting his ass with the same passion as Shaw is Hinnistroza. He gets bounced around and he's small.... but he keeps coming and seems to learn. And again in a different way I think the same can be said for DCat. One brings speed and the other is a stone cold snipe, but they understand that they are not complete players and are making an effort to be more well rounded. Even Murphy brings it all the time. Sure there's nights he sucks, but it seems to me he try's even harder when he gets beaten on a play.
Winning players all have pride and passion. Talent only matters after a player makes a proper effort. Spot pickers are the guys you trade. |
