You can teach defence. You can't teach offence. Ehrhoff was a (frank)ing trainwreck when he came to the Canucks, but they gutted it out and he became a solid defender.

Ellis, Subban, Karlsson, *most good offensive defenceman* had big time defensive warts but you can work on that as long as your coach has the patience to play someone under 25 years old through their growing phase.

Honestly, a bunch of defence is just positioning and reading positioning. Thats something you can work on with a guy.
