This might quite possibly be the worst stretch in franchise history in terms of futility. Like the only one in my lifetime that comes close is those Messier years in the late 2000s. Pretty dark 4-5 year stretch in there.

I don't recall much about the 80s but they defaulted into a bunch of playoff rounds because like 20 team league with 16 playoff seeds.

It really is the best thing for right now. Don't do things half assed . If you are going to tank go all the way. Best odds at Dahlin and 32 pick OA is almost like another first rd pick

But you know what, I'm sure a lot of positive things will come out of it from the draft positions they're getting, planned or not, they're still getting what they need to get better.

The depressing thing about this is that they aren't trying to tank. They don't make tank moves.

Like there is a difference between Buffalo style "oh (frank), that guy completed a pass trade him!" tanking and just "hey its gonna be lean for a bit" tanking.

Like I don't think they've really made one progressive non-hand-forced trade for the future of the franchise since losing to Calgary in the playoffs.

Sure, they're falling ass backwards into the best prospect pool they've ever had because holy (frank) how couldn't you.

But when you're this bad why aren't you also trying to do things like maximize your cap as an asset and maximize the value of veteran assets.

Instead the team has 8 signed defenceman on 1 way deals next year.

Like the contract situation on this team is (frank)ing dire. Not speaking ELCs, there is like one positive value contract on the team in Tanev and they're loath to trade a guy who can't stay healthy and is going to be like 32 on his next contract.

True, but those teams aren't sucking because of McDavid or Eichel. Those teams suck despite of those players. Both those players holding up their end of the bargain.

Both franchises have (frank)ed up. That's not the norm. You give those picks to a half decently run organization and instant success.

Just like the canuck draft record, you wonder if these teams are being intentionally sabotaged.
