why sign anyone? The team will suck again so they mine as well stick with the current tandem as they are both signed. Dump Nilsson at the TDL for anything and bring up Demko then. - CanuckDon
It's just a hypothetical.
If i was the GM, i'd be interested in getting a better in every position. every year.
But hey, that's just me.

Poll question (full disclosure - not a real poll)
Assuming Demko is not slotted in as a backup next year, because our defence is suspect and will likely be just as suspect next year.
Assuming we somehow get rid of either of the current Swedish meatballs.
Who would you go for as a UFA goalie??
Bernier?
Lehner?
Ward?
Hellebuyck??
Raanta??
Other smart azz answer? - dbot
Yes get a goalie

weird way to look at it lol
A player is going to get Sven’s spot no? Sven got 2nd line minutes for most of this season + 2nd unit PP time. I’d assume his replacement will put up more than 0 points lol.
And again, the Sedins are atrocious defensively at 5v5. Just by them leaving this team is already better defensively by default. Assuming they won’t be replaced by a guy like Vanek.
I feel like we’re going in circles here, my point is that the Canucks don’t have to match the offense lost by the Sedins leaving in order to replace their value due to their terrible defensive play.
Also, almost any somewhat decent player will score points with top 6 5v5 mins + 70% O Zone Starts + PP1 with Bo/Brock
It’d be hard not to put up points in those minutes - Nucker101
This isn't really true. It really isn't that easy for many to log big minutes, face tough matchups night in and night out. Someone recently said the same about Edler, but every time he goes down, who is stepping into that icetime and producing?
Answer: Nobody. Because you have to actually be able to handle it. William Karlsson played three years a a bottom 6 center. He was at least somewhat ready. Hutton did at one point, but his confidence is shattered from being in the top4, way over his head. He was not ready.
Bo is our 1C next year, regardless of what they do. He is going to succeed because he wasn't rushed in. I think another year of the Sedin's is a bit moot. Either guys like Sutter and Gagner will fill those minutes, or they wont. I don't think it will be kids as the new "first" line is Bo and Boeser with whoever. Could Gaudette come in and play 3C and Sutter 2C. Ya I guess. Certainly not a better team. Sedin's are not the issue. They, even this old and slow, are some of the only NHL caliber players weve got.

Agreed - Nucker101
Then why are all ya'll talking about replacing points if/when the Sedin's leave?
If everyone really wants to team to bottom out even further, why worry about who is going to score goals any more than who is going to stop them?
Keep all prospects in the AHL and bring them in after the TDL for a taste of the big show. |

I think i'd go for Helleybuck, but Winnipeg might not let him get to free agency... |

It's a nice ideal word fantasy, doesn't really have much of a place here though. The reality is: he is getting better depth at those positions, but they are a year or two away from being in the NHL. There's no quick fixes, Canucks are going to be worse before better. Although this year might be rock bottom, depending on how we finish.
I honestly don't much care if the Sedin's stay or go, but we've got bigger problems than them. |

What about the 100 pts they give up? How do you know someone else can't put up numbers if you don't try something else? Make a couple of trades find better players than the current roster.
We have finished bottom of the league 4 of 5 years. Try something new. What's the worst that can happen - VANTEL
I don't disagree with trying something new and moving on. I just disagree with the concept that Sedins contribution from this year is easily replaced internally or through the UFA bargain bin.

They may be scoring 50 pts on gifted starts but they are honestly giving up about 50 pts a year. Those 100 combined points turn out to be about 40 actual goals seeing it is usually both of them in on the same goal .They usually score a combined 25 goals between them.
You are basically telling me that we don't have anyone currently that can help out on 40 goals a year.
The second unit PP looked decent and put up some goals on their 30 seconds of allotted PP time. I am sure if the second unit PP was given 1.30 PP time they could increase by another 20 goals at least. |

Then move on FFS, why does this need to be this difficult? Even if they wanted to stay, go see-ya! Write a nice thank you letter and re-build.
See Seattle Seahawks.

I’m just arguing against bringing back 2 of the oldest/slowest guys in the league to the 3rd last place team in the league.
I’m not against signing a goalie but I don’t think most of the names mentioned will really move the needle much unless you can find the next Dubnyk. |

Maybe we are just looking for a goalie that doesn't let the first shot in 15 times a year |

5v5
Henrik was on the ice for 29 gf and 36ga
Danny 28 gf 33 ga
It's not as big as you guys are thinking and that doesn't include the PP.
Henrik and Danny 29 gf 5 Ga on the PP.

The only loss felt will be on the PP as playmakers for Bo/Brock.
I really don’t think there’s an argument to be made that they’re actually helping this team at 5v5 |
