On the bright side, I’m glad they didn’t feel presssure to draft a kid just because he’s the son of a fan favourite who used to play here.
Can’t have any bias at this level of hockey.
But yeah, Ronning seems like a nice pick that late. We’ll see how his game translates into the pros. - Nucker101
It is extremely unlikely he ever becomes a top 6 in the NHL though. Abols, if he turns out, looks like he could be a more effective bottom 6 than Ronning IMO. |

Looks like if he does it will be with not the Canucks... |

Abols is awful. Ronning is an extreme longshot. Glad they didn't pick the kid with connections to the organization. Nothing to see here. |

It sounded like Abols wasn't going to be selected by another club, could have signed as a free agent and the Canucks could have had both. two long shots.

Trading a guy with a bum shoulder and not being up front about it to the other GM is how you burn bridges though.
And if he did tell other GM’s about it then they likely didn’t offer a whole lot. - Nucker101

Well other GM's seem to love dumping their junk on our doorstep for draft picks.
So clearly those GM's are fine with burning bridges. |

Perhaps they thought he would be selected? I have no idea. They make lots of bizarre late picks. Maybe Delorme is in charge of the 6th and 7th rounds - CanuckDon
I guess they were both looked at as being long shots.
we do need more scoring and a bit more toughness. we lack so much. the whole draft is a lottery. |

Did Gillis know what he was getting when he traded for Ballard? |

No arguments there. I’m simply stating that the Sedins aren’t helping anything other than our PP. time to rip the bandaid off and start from scratch. There are a 100 problems and hanging onto the old guard isn’t beneficial to the teams future in my opinion. - CanuckDon

#Canucks prospect Kristoffer Gunnarsson finished the SHL season with 0 points in 46 games - he was the only player to appear in more than 21 games to not register a point.
11 goaltenders had more points than Gunnarsson - including Justin Pogge, who had 4 assists. #Canucks

This is an asset we need to trade while he still has value.

Most posters here are so extreme to criticize anything Benning or Linden, can you image the bemoaning if Ronning was chosen in the draft. |

This management team needs a "hey, wait a minute" guy who just argues devil's advocate on everything.
Haven't had that since they fired Gilman, who was apparently always asking questions like "why" and "are you sure" which made for a "cumbersome" front office, which is just business speak for the HiPPO not being told he's a genius all the time. - Lindenis#1
Gillman seems to be lingering around for a job. Bring him in for a support role. I'm ok with that.

(frank) yeah, everyone knew he was a chronic case of injuritis and reoccurring injuries as well.

What?
He played 82 games for 3 straight years prior to the Canucks acquiring him. |

To me it was a positive sign that they don't care about the last name. But the casuals and the "why don't we draft more local kids" crowd were upset by it.
Give me a Stanley Cup, I don't care where the players are from. |
