He can only sign a 2 year ELC. The Hawks are in a sad state of the most compelling season to sign is burning a year of a contract.
I think Sikura will look beyond his ELC and position himself to make more money on a better team over his career. That would be a team like the Penguins, not the Blackhawks. - DarthKane
Why did Mackinnon and Matthews sign with the teams who drafted them? The draft has worked very well for bringing new blood to teams in any condition even the worst teams for as long a it's been around. Even Bowman can figure out how to sign a draftee. |

"The Blackhawks may have one clear advantage in their quest to sign Sikura. Assuming Northeastern doesn’t make a deep run to the Frozen Four, the Blackhawks will be able to offer a two-year ELC where the first season is burned this spring. That would allow Sikura to hit restricted free agency after the 2018-19 season, which would position him for a raise beyond his ELC-limited salary as soon as possible.
The contract would also likely require maximum performance-based bonuses, which the Blackhawks would likely be happy to pay out if he played well, just like with Artemi Panarin. Every team can offer max bonuses, though."

Good point. Another factor is that Chicago is still a major market where opportunities for athletes far exceed most other markets even after retirement. |

Evander Kane 4 goals for San Jose tonight. JVR had a hat trick and 5 Goals over his last 2 games. These are the types of skilled finishers with big bodies the Hawks desperately lack. saad was supposed to be that type but he caught the stone hands/no finish syndrome from 19 this year. |

Sikura making a strong case for that Northeastern deep run -- ties the game against Providence and now they are ahead 2-1. |

I can sum it all up.
Our Forwards suck. Our D suck. Our goalies suck. We are terrible at even strength and special teams are atrocious. The coach sucks. The GM sucks. The front office is full of pompous jerks and everyone they will sign or draft is gonna be even worse than who we have now.
Basically this season is the worst thing to happen in the city of Chicago since some little fire in 1871. - breadbag

Sikura and Northeastern lost. Now we wait for Sikura to sign with the Penguins in August. Maybe Stan can get a 6th round pick for his rights? |

What did Nashville get for Vesey’s rights to Buffalo? I don’t remember what round Vesey was picked. |

Nothing. Teams only get compensation for first round picks that don’t sign (which Vesey wasn’t).

Why the Penguins? - hawks2010
1. He’s tight with their coach (Mike Sullivan)
2. The Pens have room for him to play and he can likely earn a bigger second contract after playing with those guys (vs being stuck in Q’s blender or doghouse). |

They traded his rights to Buffalo for a third I believe and he was a third rounder I think. |

That is correct. Maybe Stan gets a mid-round pick for Sikura, but he probably screws that up too. |

Q’s going to be gone. His lieutenants were replaced the last two years. The big guy is next after the debacle that was this season. Only question is if Bowman goes with him. |

I'd bet he's only gone if Bowman is first. Then the new guy would make his own hire |

What good is the cap space if the team isn't going to use it? Trading AA depletes the Hawks centre depth. Toews and Schmaltz are legit centres, Kampf is probably a decent 4C but he's still unproven. Beyond that who on the team is better than AA?
That being said, I truly expect Anisimov to be traded, but not this off-season. I expect AA to be dealt in July 2019 after this NTC clause expires and he's paid his performance bonus. AA would be paid $2 million in salary (after his bonus) in 19/20 and would carry a $4.55 million cap hit. In 20/21 he's paid $3 million for the same cap hit. That will drive up his trade value to cash strapped teams like Ottawa. - DarthKane
Centre Depth? When Anisimov is injured which he is for many games every year the Hawks do not miss him. They become a faster, better team.

I believe Scott Powers who interviewed Sikura and thinks he´ll sign with Hawks. Either way I´m not expecting him to be a different maker in NHL. This team has bigger issues than whether he´ll sign or not. |

You think Vesey is liking his decision to not sign with Nashville now? |
