It's a shame about Laberge, he looked like a can't-miss player after his draft season before the concussion. I think him playing an overage season is probably for the best. - jmatchett383
I don't know about can't miss. Even before the injury there were questions about whether his game would translate to the pros.

Reminds me of Morin in the sense that neither seem to be able to stay healthy, which in turn, slows their progression. - WhirlingDervish
I don't know why people keep saying that about Morin. he has had one out of 3 season's with injuries. I don't think that should label him as not being able to stay healthy beyond just this one season

Yes, he didn't miss a game thru injury in his first two AHL seasons.

He busted up his jaw in juniors...I wouldn't really say it has affected his development though
Eats it like a (frank)ing champ though. GET THIS TOWEL OUT OF MY FACE
Bill I don’t watch hart’s games but it’s hard to ignore what the 16 yoa backup who is 5’11 and 145 lbs on Everett was able to do also. In 20 games which is a considerable sample size he posted a 2.25 and a .928. Very similar numbers to hart at his age. Obviously Hart’s are much better but this kids numbers are also better than any other goalie in the league, albeit in 20 games. Not trying to rain on the parade but it seems that Everett might have a sound defensive type of team that may have a big hand in his historic type numbers

There is a give and take there. Everett was garbage in hart early days with them and would see 50+ 60+ shots a game. They built their team around a star young goaltender in hart and are now a contending team. When you are able to progress a team forward like that your back up does look better. Maybe the back up is legit maybe not. Either way the back up numbers still pale in comparison to hart with the same team infront of him and Carter has done it way before their team was good.
Bill can you shed any insight as to what the flyers and strome have done to improve those 2 key areas you mentioned? Do they have hm working with a skating coach? - rinaldo
He worked with a skating coach last summer and, no doubt, will again this summer. The conditioning part of it is something they work on as a standard part of the developmental program for everyone in the system: players are given a dietary and exercise plan.

They do have a sound defensive system but I suggest you also look at what the other goalies that Everett used early this season when Hart was out with mono did in their games. Yes, Wolf has done well above league average, but a) Hart gets almost all the tougher opponents and a lot of back-to-backs and b) his save percentage is still about 2 percent lower per 100 shots.
There are 24 other guys taken ahead of Debrincat that haven't seen the NHL yet. When Laberge was taken people thought it was a steal as he was talked about as a 1st rounder.
Have to give time to see how things play out before i say Debrincat was a better selection.

To add: Goalie stats don't differ that much on the surface. 2 percentage points is monumental. It is the difference between Bobrovsky and Mrazek. There are backups that have higher save percentages than starters on a lot of teams. The stats are nice to look at and get recognition from for his performance, but watching him makes it easy to see how good of a prospect he is.

Don't you know it's only the Flyers who are terrified of drafting smaller skilled players?
Sure, there are 16 players drafted in the first round that year that have yet to play in the NHL, not to mention the first 8 picks in the second round, but no, it was just the Flyers who were scared away from DeBrincat.

Morin will be fine. Maybe he goes under the knife after the post season if needed. He'll come back and win a roster spot out of camp especially after he thought he had a roster spot locked down this past camp. He'll be a beast.

Isn't he now rated the #1 or 2 nhl goalie prospect as well ? It's no accident that everyone else is starting to see how good he is.

Yeah he is 1 or 2 on pretty much everyone's list. Samsonov is up there, which is good for the Caps, but still might not make up for them hilariously drafting him 22nd overall in 2015.

They were going to draft Konecny there, but were scared off by his lack of size, so they opted for the much bigger Samsonov.
I don't know, but 15GP this season is maybe not troubling, but it is something that makes one take notice. - Scoob
That's one season. When I think of "unable to stay healthy," I think more of a player like Myers or Neuvirth, players with multiple injuries multiple years. Morin didn't miss a single game due to injury his first 2 pro seasons.
