Yeah no kidding. If the Canucks won 3 cups in 6 years they could sign Guddy and MDZ to identical 10 year 100 mil deals and I'd have no (frank)s to give - Lindenis#1

I think its funny that a team has 3 Ericksson like contracts. hilarious really. - CanuckDon
One way of looking at it. But really Toews Kane Keith Seabrook etc etc ect were all paid what they were worth for the time. If we had 3 cups in 6 years here no one would give a shat if we signed Eriksson for 17 years lol

Very true, but I got a feeling they will come out of this smelling like roses. Certain NHL teams seem to have an easier time "managing" their mistakes then others.

I'm sure the NHL will help them out. - bloatedmosquito

Can you imagine if they had traded Kane and Seabrook when they were worth something instead of what they did do. Can’t get emotionally attached to players and remain competitive every year.

Exactly. Look at the masterful job the Yankees did. They weren’t attached to any players and did a quick firesale and they are back to being a strong club. Of course it helps being a sports team in NY. Players need to be treated like commodities.
The Canucks have/had plenty of assets to sell. They just had no interest in doing it - Lindenis#1
Who had any interest in taking them??
Imagine the phone calls.....
"Yeah, you know, like, its JB here from Vancouver, Can i interest you in a Ben Hutton, he's fat as f&ck, sucks at his job and is regularly scratched...No?"
Maybe Guddy? he needs shoulder surgery first tho.
Edler? Doesnt wave much, also, what kinda country clubs you have near town?
Maybe Sven or Granlund? They cant play.
Dowd? We forgot he even played for us.
Gaunce? he scores once every 100 games, but he's amazing in the DZONE!! Whats that? Hard pass...
Sedins? just joking we resigned them for 3 more years
MDZ? He can spin the f&ck outta some LPs, you know, pump up the jam before games.
The giveaway machine, Derek Pouliot? We're giving him away, still a no?
Tanev? never mind he's hurt, or will be hurt"
Yeah I imagine the the doors had to be replaced with the amount of teams banging on them

Wait until they hire one of those guys to be the teams President or GM.

Vintsy - we settled on a new civic picking it up Saturday

You are right about nobody wanting our trash. Although the team needs to do a better job identifying UFA's that can be flipped for assets as well. It's not going to get any easier as most UFA's will try and avoid Vancouver this summer I imagine.

the way i look at it is...We don't want them and we're the worst - so why would anyone else?
I can only pretend to know what goes on in JBs office
Edit - also - didn’t you go on a whole rant about penciling in prospects? Aren’t potential free agents the exact same thing, potential (aka - prospects)? - 1970vintage
Lol... yes, but we know if we have signed the free agent before training camp begins and can try to make other moves like signing lesser free agents and scraps before the season begins.... So no.
Substitute Dowd or guadette for Taveres and we're still a bottom feeder. Benning is going to sign Kane 5.5x5 for sure.

I could understand keeping Toews/Kane, but that Seabrook contract was the easiest out of the 3 to walk away from.

This is all accurate. They have to want to play here for you to sign and flip them.

This is why you sit on your hands during the first 2-3 days of UFA and then make calls on the guys who have realized that they aren’t getting the money/term/roles from good teams like they had hoped.
