Might've been me. Although I'd never say I was "sure". I incorrectly thought he was a UFA. I felt it that were the case, the odds were stacked against us.

Looks like he signed an ELC with the Sabres and an ATO with the Amerks, so he can play in the playoffs. The CBA is just bizarre sometimes.

Friedman did that with the flyers last year as well. I believe that playoff eligibility rule is just designed to keep NHL teams from sending older vets down to their affiliate for a playoff run.

You're probably right. It's just strange to me that a guy can have 2 contracts with the same organization. He should be allowed to play in the playoffs, it's just an odd way to allow it.
