what a bizarre thing for Biech to say. Pretty sure he is winning the hobey. Do 31 players win the Hobey every year? Perhaps 5 or 6 teams have a prospect with similar value in the NCAA but he is on drugs. - CanuckDon
Hobey Baker means (frank) all.
I don't think ever single NHL team has a prospect of similar quality but probably half of them.
College being 4 years long. Obviously being in his 3rd year he's going to be ahead of guys drafted 2 years behind him.

21 year old JV 3rd liner.
Willing to wager that 22 year old JV could be a 2nd liner. - manvanfan

No doubt, but for some of those teams, he'd be their best top forward prospect.
Also, some of the younger guys than him with promising starts to their college careers may not keep progressing the way Gaudette did. A lot of CHL/College players tend to have promising starts to their careers but then don't improve enough from year to year. Almost seems like Biech is assuming that all/most of them will improve like Gaudette did, a silly assumption. |

At this point, it's more likely that he won't become a top 6 NHL'er than not. Anyone who's still projecting him to become a legit top 6 player is going against the odds. |

There's no facts to support a non-playoff team's player winning the Hart, I don't blame you. - neem55

It is an award that is primarily awarded to seniors.
The voting usually favors seniors.
8 of the last 10 winners have been seniors. |

Yeah, since they aren't a Canucks prospect. They won't get any better.
Let's not forget 3 other NCAA players were asked to come to the olympics and not Gaudette. |

I did and you just assumed that players don't get better. You are basically the opposite of Biech. He just doesn't want to keep getting burned. |

Please attempt a 3rd time, good sir.
I said that only some of those prospects will continue to improve enough year to year to become highly thought of prospects. If every or the majority of prospects improved from year to year like Gaudette then every team's prospect pool would be way deeper.
Nowhere did I say that none of them will improve like Guadette did. |

Yes it does.
Shouldnt be a concern though, we may have a hard time finding 7 forwards 3 defensemen and a goalie worth protecting. - Reubenkincade
In two years they will have replaced the Sedins, Sutter, Ericksson, Gagner, Archibald, Dowd, etc. with younger guys. Based on Benning's MO, the guys who fill those shoes will already have a couple of years experience playing in the NHL or AHL. That means the Canucks will probably lose a roster player to Seattle. Doesn't mean they'll lose a star player, but by that time they probably still won't have enough depth for it not to hurt. |

It's not based on just play, its based on schooling, volunteering, etc etc
it's like an all around award.

I am thrilled to have as many hobey baker award candidates since 2014 as we do. Counting Gaudette, we now have him Demko and Dowd, both were runners up. |

Simply put only 30 players need to put up the same sort of numbers as Gaudette in any of his 3 seasons would be considered to be near the same quality of Gaudette. Whether they leave the NCAA after year 1, 2 or 3 doesn't matter. OR even year 4

Sure, as long as they do it while being 21 or younger. And not by riding the coattails of more talented linemates like Motte did. |

Still think having a team full of choir boys is boring(unless it’s actually a really good team of course). I like having some players that other teams hate. |

A big difference is that AG put up big numbers last year and also very solid production in his freshman year. It's not like he came out of no where when he turned 20. |

I'm cool with trading Tanev at the draft, just not for a garbage return. A late 2nd and another prospect that some team is no longer excited about would be a pathetic return. - Nucker101
Tanev's injury status will most likely kill us in that trade. We missed the boat. |

Pretty sure that's the point of what Biech was trying to get at. We as Canucks fans think that Gaudette is the best product in the NCAA right now because he won the scoring race and is up for the Hobey Baker. Gaudette could be a bust coming the NHL.
Probably 5 or more every year that put up the similar numbers. Whether they progress or not. Leave college or stay. |

He's not coming back unless/unitl there's new management - Nucker101
Tryamkin's high standards and expectations can only be met playing in the KHL?
Despite them trying to convince him to go play with the Comets, I don't think Benning and Linden were all that much of an issue. I believe Desjardins and Lidster pissed him off, and he was too young and immature to deal with that on top of being isolated in a completely new culture.
I doubt he'll be back next year, but chances are probably good for the 2019/20 season. He'll be 25 then and hopefully more mature. |
