first off, i was never a fan of his on draft day to begin with so its not news.

second, you misread the subtext, itst not about the game state, its about the players compared to. He produced well for an 8th overall pick that was a freshman on a bad team.

Its not like he produced 3 points a game where hes gunna come in and produce like barzal. He's probably been developing at exactly the pace you'd predict he would. I mentioned before, I think he's going to be our version of Marner.

and mittelstadt makes roughly 6.5 mil less than ROR, so the comparison is flawed.

Next year he makes 8.5M in real money. Final four years he makes $6M in real money with 7.5M cap hit. OEL is making $5.5M right now so really next year you would only be adding $3M in real money. Then getting a centre they desperately need at $6M a year for four years which would be a mere $500K of what they are currently paying to OEL.

Its not the total money thats the issue. teams like arizona and carolina, the latter of whom is too cheap to pay their next GM market value, aren't going to take on contracts where the majority of the pay is coming in huge bonuses
