Lesson learned guy, dont you worry.

The Justice Department went on a tour under Eric Holder suing every prison in the country that they didn't like. They tried to make the prisons play patty cake with the inmates, the regulations are ridiculous now. I know you may think you have a handle on what it's like in there, but you don't. Until you've spent real time there and see what takes place and the huge amount of chit the deputies go through each and every shift, you don't know.

You're right, I don't, but when you have the same amount of suicides as Rikers, a jail 20 times bigger, that's a massive issue.

I only know what I've read, seen on the news, and from first hand accounts, and I meant that literally that if half what they said was true, I'm accounting for exaggeration, from a few people I know that have been there in the past 3 or 4 years, and to a person they said it's horrific.

One was serving a 10 day for a drug court violation, another was in for 12 days because she couldn't afford the $500 bail after a shoplifting arrest, and another who was there for 3 weeks because he was "driving" with a revoked license because of a DWI(he was riding a bicycle with a tiny electric motor on it.)

I'm not saying the deputies are purposefully negligent, neither do I believe they care all that much, but I get it, the place is old, it's a budget thing, there's not enough money to go around for staffing and equipment, so they have to make do, but that doesn't change the fact that it's a poop hole.

A major issue is that the county shut down the ECMC psych ward and has sent all the mentally ill to be housed in the holding center because there is not place else to keep them and they are a danger on the street. As for suicides, you have 1 officer watching 40 inmates and it takes 2 minutes to kill yourself. You can also hang yourself up while sitting in bed, you don't literally always find someone swing from the rafters. They can knot up a pair of underwear around their windpipe and appear to be sleeping in bed, but be dead all the same. There is just nothing the deputies can do in these cases.

I agree with everything you said here. I just would like people to know that the deputies try there best there every day and the amount of stress and poop (sometimes literally) they have to go through is unbelievable. The building itself is a poophole, the walls, floor, ceiling has been covered with decades worth of every fluid that can come out of the human body. If you work there for any real amount of time, plan on being sick, it's just an unhealthy environment. ECCF is a much cleaner, better facility, but it's also minimum security.
