if you don't have a good handle on the cap, you aren't doing your job right. Cap management is so imperative to running a team. Does it surprise anyone that teams that are getting insane value on players are at the top of the league right now (Nashville with their D, and Tampa with their forwards) VS teams that are struggling (CHI/VAN). Its not black and white, and obviously teams that have a plethora of space, or don't spend to the ceiling, doesn't equate success or failure, but the proof is in the standings currently. - Codes1087
Hawks in cap hell we are not. |

In the case of LE the money was there for him as a UFA but like you mentioned the term & NMC/NTC is the mistake - Nighthawk
Bingo. He would have been payed regardless. Its the term that hurts.
And honestly who knows what LE would look like on another team. This franchise COULD be a majority of the reason he sucks. System doesnt suit him, Teammates dont suit him.
He could be a 6 million dollar player. Just not with this club......... Not even close. |

Tanev and Del Zotto (with 50% salary retained on MDZ) to NYI for Calgary's 2018 first and second, plus the Islanders 2nd.
Islanders need to show Tavares that they're prepared to take bold steps to fix their defensive problems and be in ‘win now’ mode. Otherwise he's gone and they’re looking at being in another rebuild mode again themselves. This one move would give them two legitimate NHL veterans including a top-pairing shut-down option, at an average cap hit of less than $3MM each, and without losing any roster players or top prospects. (They could use some of those remaining assets to solve their goaltending issues and try to sign Carter Hutton or Antti Ranta as UFA's.)
Canucks would get two picks in the top 15 of this year’s draft plus two more in the top 43. They would likely be able to take one of the top scoring forwards plus three quality D prospects from the first two rounds. Salary retention on MDZ is only for one year.
Tanev’s injury troubles are mainly the result of constantly getting slammed into the end boards and having pucks hammered at him because the Canucks are lousy. Playing in New York behind a group of forwards who are good at puck possession would greatly reduce the wear and tear on his body and his games lost number should go way down. - YeOldTimer

Majority of Tanev's injuries are not because he's fragile, it's from getting hit by pucks. i.e. Situational
Put him in a better situation and the number of times he's injured and the number of games he misses should go down fairly significantly. If he could play 70 games a year on a good team at that cap hit, he's a bargain. If this move helps keep Tavares around, it's a very, very low price to pay.
Islanders are in a unique position with their fans because losing the opportunity to take a first and second rounder is easily a distant second to retaining their franchise player in his prime. - YeOldTimer
I certainly understand what you are saying but I don't agree. We have a large enough sample size with Tanev over the last couple years to conclude he is brittle. If you are a defensive defenseman that has trouble handling a physical forecheck? I guess I just don't see a healthy Tanev on a better team. He is made of glass. |

Very few teams have interest in our garbage. Those that do have any inkling of interest want to rape and pillage JB and the Canucks. We need better players before teams start wanting some of the tire fire crew.
You best hope for a second tier signing in free agency and hope we have more success drafting |

What do Canucks possibly have in the same stratosphere that would entice Ottawa or NYI to trade either of those players to us ? Unless you are looking at Bo Brock and a first don't even think of it.

If i was Garth Snow, and trying to convince JT to stay, i'd be looking to make a sexier deal than Tanev though.
i'd be trying to land a Karlson (or Carlson for that matter) and a goalie.
Swing for the fences.
NYI trade Calvin De Haan (signed), Cal Clusterfcuk, Josh Ho Sang plus it's Calgary 1st, 2nd to Ottawa for a signed Karlson and Craig Anderson. - dbot
NYI probably want to keep de Haan. He's one of the only D-men on their team with a positive +/- (+11 over his 33 games while Nick Leddy is -42 in 76). They'll have to pay someone to take Clutterbuck and his 17 points off their hands. Ho Sang is probably going to end up being a swap of one bust/misfit prospect for another from a different organization.
NYI would never be able to afford to fill out a competitive roster with two players signed to max cap hits, and Anderson's not all that sexy after the year he's had in Ottawa.

Tanev will have interest and still holds a 1st+ in value.
Hutton or Zotto could net us a 3rd, possibly more in Huttons case. Most likely not.
MTL had been rumored to wanting LE at 25% retained, but we would not get much back. We should take it. |

When you're the top pairing shut-down guy on a lousy team, you're going to be in your own end a lot, with a lot of shots against. He's missed 28 games due to getting hit by pucks this year. Not blocking shots, but getting hit. Mouth, thumb, and fractured leg. Most of his ailments are not because he's 'fragile'. |

That's a good move. - dbot
It's the only move. BC's major north south hwy makes you drive through a single lane section with parked cars and multiple lights and pedestrian controlled crossings and its ridiculous. It's not a hwy and more or less a stroll through down town. One bridge over the Quesnel river in an industrial area would be all it takes to bypass it all but the town is terrified all their businesses will die in downtown. The province should just do it anyways. |

This years draft was to be very good. I think it turned into a average draft by the end of the season. There is the franchise D. 4 forwards only that scored over a ppg. A few D that were strong. The strongest league of players are probably coming from the USDP. First time ever they made the playoffs in USHL or something too. |

That's the spin Benning needs to put on it and he should get Ian McIntyre started on it right away. First intermission tonight.
I see Snow as being in a very unique situation and much more motivated than someone like Lamoriello. Leaf fans wouldn't be happy giving up their first rounder for someone with Tanev's recent history. But Snow only needs to look like he has a plan and is doing something immediate that can help Tavares win now. Once JT signs it doesn't really matter whether Tanev is ever healthy again.
MDZ has played every game this year. |

Thanks Carol
If the Canucks win does it hurt the Ducks chances of making the playoffs? Let’s kick their butts then!
5-1 Nucks, Boeser scores from the press box, Miller leaves the game early to hit the Jim, Luongo style. |
