the ironic thing is his drafting has been good. it's completely counter-intuitive for him to be trading away picks instead of collecting them.
you guys will/do have a handful of good young players. but i'm not sure benning is the guy to add the depth needed to get the nucks out of the basement. - Tumbleweed
All MNGT groups have gaffes in the NHL...all. We haven't had a prospect rating this high in as far as I can remember. Sometimes trading picks works...sometimes it doesn't, it is what it is. There is much more to building a team than just drafting and picks...but yes he has drafted well agree.

that's because the Canucks haven't had a stretch this rough in what feels like forever.
Even if a GM sat on his hands since taking over and didn't make any trades, he would of ended up with "the best canuck prospect pool in years!" just by default.
3 out of 4 years picking 6th or higher, with a 4th in 5 years coming up this June.
Any GM who doesn't have a top prospect pool after that should be ashamed of themselves.

lol...in 2-3 years when the prospects are running the show here and things have turned around a lot of folks around here will be owing Benning and co. an engraved apology... - LordHumungous
Apology for what? Finishing at the bottom of the league every year while spending to the cap and pissing away draft picks?
Picking a player top five/six out of all the kids in the world is not a really difficult task, although Benning looks to have (frank)ed up two of them where better players were available.

I was looking at that . They are currently 10 th we are 4 th . I would do our first for all three first round picks but not our first for theirs and one more. It would need to be all three - VANTEL
Borrowing my trade down strategy huh.
It never gets much traction here. Folks are in luv with a higher number vs smart picks
Yes I know, that's why Bennng pisses me off with his reach for a player of Sutter's caliber and yet another swing and a miss. That's not Sutter's fault though, it's Bennings. - LeftCoaster
What’s there to explain? That’s exactly why they’ve been terrible and fired their GM’s. They’ve failed to take advantage of drafting high on every round over the last few years.
