Yes. He's been an upgrade on Dale Weise, who is not an NHL-caliber player right now. So basically, he's been better than terrible, which is no great feat.

NHL Player Safety

@NHLPlayerSafety
Boston’s Brad Marchand fined $5,000, the maximum allowable under the CBA, for cross-checking Philadelphia’s Andrew MacDonald.

the "Lappy simply can't coach a PK" narrative would need to account for why the team was at 84.8 percent on the penalty kill his first year and 83.1 percent in the second half of 2015-16 (80.5 percent for the fill season, due to a rough first half). Either he's randomly known and then forgotten -- and then briefly recalls again only to forget anew-- how to coach a PK or it's primarily a matter of personnel not executing.

It's quite simple to explain. One year and half a year are small samples compared to the total of five years "Lappy" has been in charge of the PK. Overall in that span, the Flyers are 25th in the league. He should have been fired last summer.

Fil and Lets are doing a real good job together.

Read should be upgraded if possible but he is an NHL players, even last year he had good possession stats, he just lost the ability to finish. He is a smart player who defends well, does well on PK and can drive the play. A 4th line player who should be paid 900K

he should have been getting the chance over Weise, Lethera, Leir. really a smaller version of Raffle.

I'm so glad we have a coach with the courage to bench clueless young players like Hagg and Laughton, and play gritty veterans like Lehtera and Manning in their place. Without Lehtera's clutch block of MacDonald's clearing attempt and Manning's on the tape pass directly to Bergeron, Giroux wouldn't have set a new record in goals yesterday. That's the kind of reliability a team needs on the ice in the final minute. Otherwise, you risk winning the game in regulation.

It is bizarre. Hakstol still employs good old boy hockey methods that I assume is only practiced as a fall back for job security.

Flyers head coach Dave Hakstol went with four defensemen late in the game, sitting Gudas and rookie Travis Sanheim.

Gudas didn't sit late in the game. He had 10 shifts in the 3rd and 6:43 TOI, with 2:04 of that coming in the final five minutes of regulation.

http://www.nhl.com/scores...rts/20172018/TH021218.HTM

3rd period TOI (final five minutes)
Manning 7:23 (2:00)
Provorov 7:21 (2:23)
MacDonald 7:15 (2:31)
Gudas 6:43 (2:04)
Ghost 6:11 (0:50)
Sanheim 3:53 (0:10)

yeah the $$$ makes a difference but I think you have to put that aside and put the best team on the ice. Or maybe you are referring to next year, I wouldn't mind Read at that number, you can send him to LHV if the rookies blow the doors off.

I'm with you on Giroux. he was coming off of major surgery that directly affects skating. it was so obvious that he was lacking his normal explosiveness. I loved the WIP host (yes i know, why do I listen) that said to trade him at all cost.

Giroux was obviously hindered by the hip surgery last season, the way he rebounded is beyond my expectations.

I've already gone on hockeypoopshoot.com and tore posters there a new @$$hole.

I see you tokenly ignore Simmonds skating it out instead of the easy dump out for the win also.

absolute (frank)ing disgrace. i will not shed a tear for that rat (frank) when someone feeds him his lunch.

Nobody will. It will just be comical when the NHL throws the book at the player who does it.

It's Lehtera's fault that MacDonald's clearing attempt hit him!

I wanted him gone for his salary. I thought he was a good choice for 13th forward. I still think that's the case, at 13th forward money.

Wayne Simmonds made an awful mistake, but he's been a good player for this team for many years and can still contribute. Lehtera and Manning are trash who are easily replaceable by 22 year olds we already have on the team.

i valued him as a pk/4th line grinder that's not going to hurt you...as his offense had pretty much disappeared. i just liked him. it didn't crush me to see him not with the team on the surface, but i would have preferred him over the weise/lehtera/leier group we've seen most of the year. he's played very well since being recalled. had a handful of good chances, but hasn't finished.
