No.
He's a guy that could be on the downside of his career and i think a lot of people like Simmonds but are aware that his best days COULD be behind him. Are we sure.....no, but I would rather cash in now on value instead of resigning him to a deal that isn't worth it as he declines. - J35Bacher
you start to wonder if its a decline or hopefully injury related.... but he's not playing well at all. Wayne Simmonds well.

2 home games left. Get the 4 points. Forget the rest.
I'm not confident, but this is the bed they made for themselves. |

I think she meant "yes it was the defenseman's fault" (she agrees with you there) but she still disagrees with putting the 4th line out there at that point in time. - Scoob
You expected him to use logic and agree with someone who had an issue with part of his response???

I don't understand this far into the rebuild/retool whatever you want to call it, how there is still so much dead wood on this roster. I know Hextall has done some really good things, but there are too many guys who simply can't play. - PLindbergh31
what is comes down to, in my opinion, is the desire to compete in the present while changing over the roster. Guys like Lehtera, Filppula and probably even Weal weren't here with the long term in mind. they are fillers to buy time. Come next season I want less fillers and more long term pieces brought in |

Bad pinch coupled with Ghost not really playing off of Beauvillier (I believe that is who made the pass) a little too much were the main causes to the goal but Lehtera really doesn't have the ability to get back.
Saw something post game where Hakstol was fine with the pinch but was more critical of the forwards getting back. I personally wasn't thrilled with the pinch and wish Ghost didn't have that much of a gap allowing beauvillier to get the pass off. As a center i would be critical of myself for not getting back on that play. - nastyflyergirl
All 3 forwards are at the faceoff circle or below. Provorov has to read that and know that he will have no coverage if the puck gets passed him. If Manning made that pinch, the experts on here would be killing him for it. You should only be critical of yourself if you didn't make the effort. The positioning, and speed difference between the players left Lehtera little chance to get back in time. He made a strong effort but just doesn't have the wheels. |

Remember, they needed to get Filppula when they looked into their crystal ball and saw that they'd be getting the #2 overall pick and selecting Patrick. |

I still say they will make it....it's the typical "not make anything easy" Flyer way.

NAK plays stronger than he looks. Bardreau does (relative to his size), but I don't see as much of an NHL upside. In years past he would be called up but they have too many bodies right now. Corban Knight is used almost exclusively like Lehtera/Laughton at the NHL level, and even to greater extremes. 4th line with crappy teammates in defensive situations |

All part of the process. Games like last night are maddening but overall, the team is headed in the right direction.

I'm not liking this attitude towards Simmonds. It's reminiscent of how everyone was towards Giroux last year. Sure he's having a down year and has been playing bad lately, he could have some lingering injury that we don't know about. He's never been a defensive cornerstone of the team. I keep hearing no way Hextall resigns him, which is complete nonsense IMO. If the price and term is right Hextall will definitely give him an offer. If he's asking full term and 6m+ let him go but you guys act like he's complete garbage now. - Doctor DOOM
My feeling on Simmonds is it totally depends on the contract request. I love what Simmonds has brought to this team and seeing him go would hurt but if he wants a long term deal I have to move him if I am the GM. I just don't want to see this team stuck with bad contracts again after Hextall has done a decent job to unload guys like Vinny, Pronger's LTI contract, etc. I believe Simmonds is hurt. I also believe he is just having a bad season. they happen. And now he is pressing which is just making it worse. I believe he will be fine. I just don't believe in signing him for more than 3 years. |

Unless Simmonds is traded, I think this year has more roster turnover than next. I don't disagree that what you've said is the intent with the veterans on the roster, but I don't think they are used as fillers as much as they should be. |

That call was BS.....I can't wait till that same call is made in a playoff game that costs a team a game or a series. |

He's not garbage, he's just been playing well below his normal standards. It's not just the defensive play, it's his attitude, or actually his lack of attitude, on the ice. He was always a player who was involved even if he didn't score, and that has completely disappeared this year.
He may be injured, and that's fair, but that doesn't mean he's above criticism. But if he's going to want to cash in big on his last chance, the Flyers are taking a big risk. I'm all for extending him if he wants 5x5, but I think he'll want more and for longer. - jmatchett383
I've noticed Simmer coasting out there on numerous occasions, I'm screaming at him but he doesn't hear me. I just don't get the OMG Hakstol took him off the PP, he's done, take him behind the barn mentality. He's had some rough games, Hakstol changed the lineup, it happens.
If Simmonds wanted 5x5 i would do that deal as well.

that play absolutely starting with Provorov's bad pinch for sure. and yes, it makes me nuts when we see a flyers momentum building goal only to see the 3rd and 4th lines give it right back. MADDENING |

part of the Flyers system allows for a pinch by a defenceman...in this case Provy....it means that Barzal can't be allowed to beat his man up the ice...in this case the fourth line slowest guy on the team Lehtera. The coach said as much in the after game comments....not the Lehtera part...I added that. - landros 2
