A lot of hand-wringing right now, but if we win against Carolina and NJ loses to Toronto (a fairly good possibility), we’re right back to where we were before tonight with one game left. At least they still control their own destiny.

a huge issue was the non call against TK that occured right beofre the isles scored to make it 3-1

i know we came back but if we had gotten that PP and tied it then i think its a completely different game

Yeah I hear you. But there were a few that could have been called against the Flyers that weren’t. I didn’t find the officiating to be a factor.......... in this game.

The Nashville game on the other hand. I don’t know. Replay is an issue. In every sport. I get the need to get it right, but replay has not been what it was intended to be in ANY sport. Replay has made us question what is a catch and it is turning goalie interference into something just as convoluted.

Simple fact, if the goalie isn’t sure where the puck is and the whistle hasn’t blown then what’s the issue? The puck was loose, got free from a stick digging it out and got banged in. Call on the ice was goal. That needs to stand. That call affected six teams- Nashville, Florida, Flyers, New Jersey, Columbus, and Winnipeg. There’s too much on the line for the league to intervene on something ticky tacky like that.

How many times has this coach made bad decisions compromising the players efforts against inferior opponents? Some coaching mistakes expected over the course of a season but it's crunch time. The overall player optimization, especially in the 3rd period was nauseating. Didn't get the right guys on the ice to turn the tide.

Hakstols' immaturity has shown in the last view games. This game continued the trend. The amount of time Lehtera and Read get on the ice baffles me. Congrats, he figured out Giroux does better on the left side. Time to bring in a more experienced coach to bring this team to its max potential.

They made the right call. The puck was under Luongo's pads and only popped back out because the guy spun him around. The whistle should've been blown before that ever happened, you know, when the ref lost sight of it.

Yup, and the Flyers also could have drafted Patrik Berglund (higher on many teams' lists, and the next player down on Philly's) instead of Claude Giroux. And the Avalanche could have drafted Simon Gagne instead of bypassing him three times in the first round (including for Martin Skoula and Scott Parker). And every team in the NHL could have drafted Jamie Benn before the 129th pick in 2007.

Shall we discuss every player that every team ever looked bad missing out on it a hindsight drafting?

- bmeltzer

you're aware we had that exact draft pick and traded for you know who

The decision to put out the fourth line right after tying it up 4-4.

Inexcusable.

Manning and Gudas playing 20min while Sanheim and Mac basically at 15. If that PK was mediocre I could understand it.

This game was horrible to watch. Please putt Hagg back on the ice. He can't do any worse than Gudas and Manning.

Mrazek is not the answer to the goaltending problem in Philly. I have more trust in Lyon than Mrazek. Please tell me that Elliot will be healthy enough to play before the season ends?

Tonight's loss against the Islanders means there's a good chance the Flyers can get knocked out of the playoffs by losing their 3 final games against teams that are not playoff contenders.

Hexstall will not fire Hakstol, because that would show that Hexstall made a big mistake in hiring Hakstol. I do believe that Hakstol has been hamstrung with the bench coaches that Hexstall gave him. The bench coaches must go, especially Lappy. Loved him a player, but he's sucked as a coach.

Everyone relax. We got this. Sheesh. They’ve got points in their last 8 games. Before last night. Huge choke artists

Read has been one of the Flyers' better forwards of late, especially among the role players. He was excellent in the Boston game in particular. That said, I don't like seeing Read and Lindblom getting virtually equal shifts and total TOI. Some of that is situational, but it also means the Flyers as a team are putting themselves in disadvantageous situations.

As for the "a more experienced coach is the solution" idea, ask Jim Nill how that worked out with Ruff and now Hitch.

Went to bed angry, woke up resigned to this team having too much crap on the roster and a coach who while overall has done a good job but fails miserably at having his team focused and ready to play way too often and makes some very puzzling lineup decisions.

sigh

You can call me negative, I could say you have blind faith. There is no reason to believe in this team. We have a really good power play and top line. That's it. The defense, PK, lack of smart coaching and lack of timely saves is enough to out weigh the positives of this team. Period.

The Flyers have 2 scoring lines. The Cooter line and the Patrick line.

They seemed disinterested for the first 40 minutes.

And I'm tired of seeing players walk around Gudas and Manning every single time they're out together.

This. (Although their 2nd line is decent and getting better imo)

I'm all for rooting for your team but you have to be realistic too. Coach often gives too much ice time to the wrong players in the wrong situations. There seems to be no accountability for a putrid penalty kill. And the goaltending is just an absolute mess until Elliott comes back.

It s just a weird standard by the coaching staff. Young guy makes a mistake rides pine. Ok, vet gets chance to play his way out and eventually rides some pine during a game. Could the PK have gotten any worse with some other dman to start with Provy then Gudas or breaking up the duo of Flip and Lehtera?
- ravishingone

That's really a myth created here on Hockeybuzz. If it's said enough times, it becomes true. The pattern is that Hakstol doesn't bench a young player for one mistake. A young player gets benched for a repeated pattern of mistakes and that is usually after a pattern and reduced ice time.

You guys are kidding me right? This comment is like when someone brought up how incredible our top pair is. Patrick, Voracek and Lindbum were our top line and it took forever to score his first. The other two aren't consistent scorers.
