You really are dumb and would be a terrible negotiator. You always ask what the other guy will offer first, that sets the stage for where you are at. I know in my mind what I am prepared to offer but if GM Brian says a name I am happy with I win. Never say I will give you IP NIghtly for the guy you want. He may come back and say what are you prepared of offer and then things intensify.

what happens if the capitals say sure i'm always open to talk shop on any player, give me an offer. what name comes out?

i'm irrationally vested in the outcome of this now.

humor us, since we are not GM's, I think it would be ok if you share what you thought would be a good trade?

So as the Flyers GM for a day, you would call another GM to try and trade for a player that you want, and you'd expect the other GM to make the first move? Who has the leverage here?
- MJL

yeah exactly. i get the whole oh never make a first offer thing. but at the end of the day the person trying to deviate from the status quo usually has to come out with something first.

Aren't we all but we don't have the experience of a 40 year fantasy GM.

man, I get into with MJL as much as anyone, hell there is probably an old thread where I owe him a comment. You did give a big build up and then mention a trade. I think MJL is just asking for some sort of idea of who you would trade, what picks or how you would pull off what you stated? After your build up, that appears to be a fair question. Maybe you answered and I missed it.

If you are looking for bed side manner from MJL, that is not happening.

Thank you, please read my last message. Honestly as a gm I am not going to say to GM Brian MacLellan I will give you W. Simmonds for P. Grubauer, that means he will come back with Simmonds and a draft pick likely. I ask him what it would take and hope he asks for somebody that is expendable. I maybe should have said I would do my best to acquire Grubauer but I cannot tell you until I spoke to GM MacLellan on how it would go down exactly. Seriously I have negotiated for 8 hours straight to get a minor deal done, sometimes they are not easy.

First off you have to take the gems before they become gems, like Raanta was a prize only the Coyotes were able to see. Last year Grubauer, Raanta and Korpisalo were my targets and we got Elliot. Anyway with Samsonov arriving and Holtby signed long term Grubauer could have been had earlier despite being an rfa. He has clearly outplayed Holtby and every other goalie except one in the last 25 games meaning he is going to be tough to acquire. A smart GM would have tried to pluck Grubauer in the off season. Now depending on what happens this spring, it is possible Grubauer stays and Holtby is traded, we do know yet. To answer your question I would have negotiated hard to acquire Grubauer and if the price was right he would be a Flyer. I have 40 years of experience being an nhl gm in fantasy (laugh if you want, I do not care) I selected with the first pick in 1980 Denis Savard and the Habs took Wickehheiser, my keeper is no money but in money I won 18 grand in a five year period in money pools, not trying to brag but hey man I know my hockey and I know the Flyers need a goalie. Mrazek was a desperation move by Hextall and he is average but you need a guy who steals games and the potential to be great and that would be Grubauer, watch him sometime.
- joegreif17

Okay, that's some fantastic 20/20 hindsight on Grubauer.

Who's the "unnoticed gem" today?

So you think the opposing GM is going to start low? If I was that GM and you called me, I'm not going to tip my hand to you. Maybe I just don't know how it works. I don't have 40 years experience as a NHL fantasy GM.

Last I saw, Giroux had grilled cheese, lobster, steak and his fiancée for dinner. Also Hextall wants to slap Weise’s mom for giving birth to that tool, Mono needs to catch up on his tv viewing, MJL won’t let Joe give him a call and I taught everyone how to spell Laughton, Lindblom, and Simmonds. Oh, and SSB was a whiny douche.

Basically it was business as usual and as always you should side with the guy who offers the most cash.

- BiggE

And all this took 30 pages? I knew all of this when I woke up this morning..... oh, except for catching up on TV. Thank you for the public service on the correct spellings. You may want to add that it's Hagg and not Haag.

hey im the last one to rain on the parade of fantasy sports. a favorite hobby for sure.

i just get annoyed when people think its so simple as saying oh never make the first offer. i'm only a meager plaintiff's attorney, but settling anything obviously requires one party to make the first move. ninety percent of the time, you can posture all you want but at the end of the day the onus is going to be on the one who's bringing the parties to the table in the first place.

The first thing the Caps would want is a first round pick and that is not happening. Nobody want the half dozen culls we have, C. Hart could be a good one and will not move him. I even like Lyon and think he has potential. The caps will lose Grubauer after next season to free agency if they do not trade him. So I think highly enough of Grubauer for two years now that I would offer a second round pick for him. I would be Grubauer would steal from Elliot, Neuvirth, Mrazak or Lyon if given the opportunity.

so true, add in that each party is typically educated and have an idea of what they want and what is fair. When not, it is even better to talk first so you don't spend hours staring at each other
