and that's all fair and good. i dont even think your evaluation is off at all. i was just curious as to how it ever actually landed on a second. call them up and offer a third, they say first, both agree on the second or whatever have you. i think people were just confused because for the longest time it appeared you were withholding the beginning step of this equation. - stayinthefnnet
Fair enough, as you know as a negotiator you always have a plan and it is like a game of chess hoping somebody makes a bad move. Every person on earth has a day when they can be had, some days a little weaker than normal. There are other ways to get it done. Talk regularly with the opposing gm and casually mention hey that so and so of mine is sure lighting it up, do that a few times even though it may not be true. Then when a real deal is on say something well what about so and so that you previously built up, what if I threw him in? This kind of stuff works, honestly. The power of the brain and how to manipulate is pivitol in negotiations. That is why Peter Chiarelli should be fired, he does not have it every day and can be had. The Oilers got raped for Hall and Eberle and therefore are not making the playoffs again. Hope you get my point and okay if you don't. |

Grubauer is a RFA after this season. The Caps could re-sign him to a multi year deal this off season.
You won't get Grubauer for a 2nd round pick. - MJL
Holtby only has one year left (I think) and will surely want a raise. If the Caps think as highly of Grubauer as joe does, they could sign him and trade Holtby. There would surely be interested parties and they keep a top-shelf goalie for no more than Holtby makes now. |

You can make fun if you like but you are talking to a rare bird, someone who can look at your credit card and remember the numbers for life, someone who can remember whatever he wants to remember relating to numbers. I spend several hours daily on pro hockey. I will be 92 in July and the fact I played senior hockey into my 80's certainly means nothing but at least you know the facts. - joegreif17

I knew you were a Jedi!. So the GM of the other team isn't going to know whether that player of yours is actually lighting it up?

I have some questions. What are the yearly dues for your cult? Do you have to go to meetings? Any free gifts involved? - MJL
45 percent of everything you own up front
we grow our own food and every now and then we have official meetings in the tall grass
basically the idea is to live a hedonistic lifestyle
we all sit on the floor and there are no chairs but sometimes i can sit in chairs
also no one can be taller than me. if you're taller you kinda have to bend down when i'm around
you get full access to the cum coffin and our 80's movie collection |

You asked what I would offer. I did not ask for your as usual dumb reply. If they resigned Grubauer (and they might) it would mean Holtby or elite prospect Samsonov will be on the move. In time they can only protect two of them and Grubauer is not signing for peanuts and that likely means he is tradeable. Starting point would be a second you dumb ass, jesus you are stupid. |

After you state what you would offer, the conversation can move forward. I don't think the Caps would trade Grubauer for a 2nd. That is a reasonable statement in reply to your stated offer.

It would make sense. Holtby is really good but if they're high on Grubauer and can find a market for Holtby, they could sign Grubauer to a cheaper deal and get some cap flexibility.

If I were the Caps I would entertain offers on Holtby, make Grubauer the starter to be challenged by the elite prospect Samsonov. Save a ton of money short term. Also check it out that Grubauer has clearly outplayed Holtby by a mile in the second half of this season. Holtby has a fine record but only because of the team in front. Holtby choked in the playoffs last year. There was actually a debate on who should start in the playoffs for the Caps this year. Holtby will I am sure the the leash is short and Grubauer baby will be ready. |
