They only get that option if its a top-10 pick. And yes, if the pick is top-10 and they decide to defer the 1st rounder to 2019, the 2019 1st becomes unprotected and the Flyers pick up an extra 3rd in 2020. - JFlyers00
TY. I knew there were some stipulations. So if the Blues miss the playoffs and move into the top 10, the Flyers aren't getting the pick then.
That's what will happen. They will get the Blues first round pick in 2019 when it's like #25 |

The cost would likely be very high for the Caps to trade him within the Metro, so no. - JFlyers00
Caps are against the cap and they will probably be headed in a different direction. I think that would keep the price down. |

I think the histrionics have been hilarious. There's no way they miss the playoffs. Florida will lose both games to the Bruins. Never a doubt in my mind. |

Let's say the Flyers had 3 games left in the season, were playing very well, had just beaten a Western Conference powerhouse 2-1, but were 4 points out of a playoff spot.
Would you feel good about the Flyers chances of making the playoffs? - jmatchett383
I would, but I'd still feel great sadness because my team would be named after the state, rather than the city, and that's never good. |

I think Boston would rather play Philly than the Panthers. I see the Bruins having a lot of incentive to beat the Panthers, as long as the Panthers are in it. |

Yes. But uncompetitive team on floor for half a decade, trade any good players to ensure your product is watchable, and hope you get some great players.
Results look promising for the Sixers in a sport where one great player makes you an instant contender. Not so much in Edmonton where you need a deep team coupled with your stars. |

Nah, man. Not sure if you saw but the Panthers are guaranteed to win out. And now we aren't getting the Blues pick this year. We're getting the 25th pick next year. |

I actually like how we match up against the Bruins. I think they would be heavily favored in goal and on defense but I do find the match up to be interesting. |

If you had to pick. Choose a scenario.
A). Flyers sneak in playoffs with 96 pts then go on a surprise run. Losing in the ECF in OT in game 6. Blues make the playoffs
B). Panthers beat out flyers for playoffs on a tiebreaker. Blues pick is #14 and the flyers catch incredible luck again landing the #3 overall pick - Just5
Hands down B).
If option A were left open that they had the possibility of winning the cup, then I'd probably go A. |

Also see Arizona and Buffalo. Edmonton should really be good, but Pete Chia is just a half a potato. |

not trying to be an bumhole....but in option A there IS a possibility of them winning the cup. albeit not a very GOOD one, but still.
i think this team, despite their steaming pile of poop they left in long island, deserves the playoffs this year. the way the young guys have stepped up and Claude/Couturier have had career years, overcoming the awful goalie situation, etc.
if these kids are supposed to be "really good" in the coming years and be "cup contenders" in 2019-20, they might as well get some playoff experience sooner than later. |

Arizona has been pretty good lately. You are pretty much just naming incompetent organizations though. Good ones don't stay at the bottom for long |

A) ends with losing the ECF in OT in game 6
they can get playoff experience in 2018-19, hypothetically |
