What I want to know from anyone who feels the coach didn't have the team focused and ready to play is how does the way the coaching staff prepares the team differ in games where they play well compared to games where they're flat and play down to a weaker opponent? Does the coach tell them "hey, it's the Islanders, we don't have to play hard or be ready, so just go out and take it easy, we don't want anyone to get hurt". How did the coach prepare them for the 3rd period when they came out and took over the game to tie the score? Did he make a "win one for the Gipper speech? Maybe he showed a clip of a Mike Eurizione inspirational speech?
Why do the players need to be focused by the coaching staff and made ready to play in a situation where a playoff berth and a crucial two points is up for grab? That's what I want to know from anyone who thinks the coach doesn't have them prepared to play. - MJL
I completely agree. The no shows is on the players and their leadership. Nothing needs to be said by the coaches to amplify the importance of these games.
Lineup decisions and usage is free game. Focus.... that’s on the players and their leadership.
Why do people always point out the negative but don't point out how everyone passed on Ghost multiple times. Getting Lindblom so late in the draft, etc etc. all teams have good and bad when drafting 18 year olds. - nastyflyergirl
In b4 2Real says Flyers scouts still suck for not using a later 2011 pick on Ghost

"Lindbum".... ummmm, yeah. - bmeltzer
Dude, Lindblum (not like I haven't found spelling errors in your blog, bill), isn't a consistent scorer yet.

that absolutely was a goal and I swear when I see poop like that it just makes me think Bettman wants Florida in because they have so little support - nastyflyergirl
I wondered if AMAC saw limited ice because of his stupid penalty that got wiped out when the Islanders scored but even still, as bad as the third pairing has been I just can't stomach those ice times. Gudas was terrible. He was even getting knocked around. I don't understand what is going on with him.
I don't think it has anything to do with NRGY. Read has been playing well and Lehtara has been solid too. He put out a line that he thought would be defensively responsible after the Flyers goal. - J35Bacher
Yeah... If Hak actually thought Read and Lehtera could match the Barzal line, that's a major issue lol. This is coming from probably the biggest Read lover on this board too.
When you think about it. The goal comes after the PP goal. on the PP you have Patrick, Voracek, Giroux, Couturier. So you probably weren't putting out the top 2 lines.
So it was probably between Lehtara line and Fillpula line. I could have seen the same thing happening with the Filppula line out there too.
Not absolving the coaching but just pointing out what was probably the thought process. - J35Bacher
Very fair point.

if you need the coach to fire you up then there is some big issues. It was on the team. Hak did make a mistake going with the 4th line

there is enough video evidence to play Sanheim more, this gudas and manning obsession needs to stop, they are that bad. it was a team lose but when manning and gudas were out there is was chaos, it zaps energy from the team

ES ice time isn't quite as bad, but the obsession with Manning is ridiculous
All the momentum in the world against a dead team playing for nothing.... a bad pinch by Provorov, and Lehtera choking on that Barzal vapor trail and good night the lights.
Was hilarious after they allowed the go ahead goal 30 seconds after they tied the game, they got a bench minor for too many men on the ice. That Hakstol runs a tight ship over on the bench.
I don't want a Rinaldo or Carcillo in the lineup, but I think we do need a little bit more crazy. This team is just very vanilla and doesn't play with much "zip" if you will. I loved it when you could throw Lappy/Powe out there and you knew they'd get the team going and were generally responsible defensively. I'd like to see Simmer have a shift like he did leading up to the Washington brawl where he just decided he was going to run over everyone on the ice.

Almost as hilarious as the fact that you didn't watch the game or at least see the too many men on the ice penalty.
If you did you would realize the dumb play that caused it was 100% Jake's fault..

They have players on the roster capable of that. It's not a roster problem. They are coached to play a more reserved style of hockey whereas someone like Lavi wanted the poop stirred just about every game.
Frankly, with how terrible the PK is they can't afford to play loose like that.

You can play like that without taking a penalty. Someone throwing more than a slight nudge against the other team every now and then would be nice.

This team could use Scott Hartnell (from then, not now). And Danny Briere. And Kimmo. Sigh. - Flyers1218
