Agreed. Nelson needs to be resigned. - sskkoo1
Easy to say they should try resign him. How high are you willing to go?
If you're Casey, don't you have to look at your options? He'll lose his bizarre FA status once he plays a few more NHL games.

I would be willing to guarantee Casey a one-way contract, even a spot on the roster. 3yr-6M. Something like what McCabe is on. |

If he signs a 1 year deal, and plays 20-whatever NHL games, then he's RFA. |

I'd think he has to test the FA market then. That's less per year than Beaulieu.

One or two or three
We still come out with some very very very good talent

If you see Toronto's Nylanders first goal, you see the "speed" Reinhart has coming back. I am not impressed with him at all...remember this is a contract year for him. - sabreadvocate1
i think a 3 yr./$13.5M deal would work for both sides |

I don't think so, Kris Baker is usually on this kind of stuff, I've heard him say that Nelson really likes it here. I think he sees the team that signed him and give him a shot and he stays. I think they'll come to some type of agreement.
But what resume does Nelson have to pitch to another team that shows he's worth more than a one year deal? I think Chad Ruwedehl had more of a portfolio to show teams and he didn't net much on the open market.
I think Nelson stays put. |

Last I knew, because of the games he has played, he's a UFA. |

Yes. He's UFA after this season. He'll be RFA after his next deal, assuming it's not crazy long term.

Oh. Yeah that would stink. It would be like the Live the Life mode on EA when you get drafted and immediately request a trade. Or like Brendan Lemieux........
Side note, going to a Padres game tonight. Trying to convince wife to move out here, San Diego is awesome. |

Well, I'd be willing to give him what it takes without getting too over-carried away. We need him here, we can't keep developing talent for other teams, we did that with McNabb, Ruhwedel. Nelson is hitting his prime years and has made a huge leap, he's only going to get better. GMJB will have to do what it takes. |

It's an odd situation, and it probably just ends with him coming back for 2-2.5. I just can't help but wonder if he's better off testing the market. I'd start to hesitate at bringing him back if the price hit 3m. I like him, but as a third pairing guy.
