And it’s not just the minutes,
but the type of minutes they’re getting

Take away the excessive defensive icetime O’Reilly gets,
and his points will likely stay the same or close to it
Then he looks a lot better, right?

Here's the problem I see with this particular argument:

You have to assume he wouldn't score more even if he played fewer minutes on a more talented team.

You also have to assume that the players you named that produce more in less time wouldn't score less even if they played hundreds more minutes on a poopty team like the Sabres.

You could be right about either or both of those. You also could just as easily be wrong.

I just don't think this one is a strong argument because there's no way to control for the difference between teams/talent with this particular stat.

If u take away some of RORs defensive workload...
he’d still get roughly the same points

What do you mean? That’s my point. He wouldn’t produce more overall points with a lesser role, but he would be a more efficient player
