I was defending him at the beginning of the season, had an epic argument with Boss about "Silent Sam" (*L), got so angry at his level of effort I was ready for the team to move on.

But, he's caught up nicely, he has some warts (all do) but the potential seem to be there for 30 goals. Now, don't pay him like that as he hasn't done it, but the Sabres have to pony up enough for a kid that has scored 20 goals for the first three years of his career. Edit: Just noticed that he put up 17 last year, but he's near 50 points each season.

I believe Nylander's problem was a torn groin muscle, so that would explain his early season woes. Besides the dude is 19 years old, Let's give him a little time to grow, not everybody matures at the same rate. It's an odd situation, and it probably just ends with him coming back for 2-2.5. I just can't help but wonder if he's better off testing the market. I'd start to hesitate at bringing him back if the price hit 3m. I like him, but as a third pairing guy.

Really? because he is doing quite fine in a second pairing role that he is playing now. He uses his body very well in the Dzone and gets his shots through to the net. I really don't know what it should cost to keep him here, That is why the Pegula's hired a guy who is savvy with the workings of the Salary Cap.

I think he's a 4/5 guy on the worst team in the NHL. Ideally, he's a third pair guy who can step up a bit during the inevitable injury.

If there are teams that view him as a top 4, and there could be, his price tag jumps significantly. He's a Right shot and has shown some offensive ability, not common at all.
