Not salary cap hit.
You can retain the hit and not pay actual salary.
When trading a player you can't retain salary, bonus, and/or cap hit. - dadeadhead
Yeah, I know. The actual money isnt important, the cap hot is. So even if you could find a team that wanted to trade a 6 mil, 60p center, which you probably couldn't, you're really still paying 7.5 when factoring (heh) retention.
Retaining salary should be a non starter. I've said this a million times, but the only way it makes sense to trade him is if mitts is ready now to exceed RORs output, and the return is astronomical.
This team isn't good enough to shed 60 points, unless their plan is to score less and be worse next year |

It's about getting players here on ELC that are ready to step in right away and play. Now is not the time to add high cap hit contracts. It's the time to shed them. |

yeah sure.. just like everyone thought Kane would get us a 1st and upper prospect at a minimum.. instead we may get a 1st and a B prospect.. yippie skippie..
Fans don't have any say, cool your excitement. It will make things less Macaulay Culkiny when they don't happen for you - IndianaSabresFan
That's when Kane was hot and people suggested his value would stay hot even when he sucked for the 25 games +
If Buffalo would have moved him when he was one of the hottest players in the league they easily would have got a good offer.
But the Sabres put all their trust in Kane thinking they could double their value |

I agree. Yesterday I pointed out $19.6 mill that will mostly atrophy out by next year - other than Bogo. Adding in Okposo gets you 25 mil.
Last thing I'll say on this because I'm sure everyone is sick of hearing.it and no one is gonna change their mind anyway: one of the reasons the last rebuild failed was that we didn't leave any good pieces in place for the tank. Pitt and Toronto did. It would be a shame if they didn't learn that lesson and they just went full scorched Earth again.
What I'm saying is, the player is productive, in his prime, and reports of a back injury are suspect. He's also consistent. What's the end game here? We don't need the salary cap room, especially if the plan isn't to add more big FAs.
We all want moves, I just don't think this move makes sense yet |

This is what we did last time. See my post above. You have to leave some productive players in place or it doesn't work |

Someone of value needs to be moved to fix the backend. I honestly believe had they won the lottery in 2014 they draft Ekblad and this team looks completely different.

Making moves to try to get better faster also failed. You can't Rob Peter to pay Paul imo |

By the time this team is ready, ROR and/or Okposo will be of no use for this team.
One has to go and ROR has the better value.
Get the backend fixed and the wingers will fall into place. The centers are already here. You can afford to move ROR now rather than later. |

It isn't about the hit for other teams, it's the that contract is buyout proof and after next season his cap hit is 7.5 but salary is 6. - dadeadhead
could that be a decent trade to a budget team like ottawa, arizona or carolina? someone who can pay less and still have the cap benefit? |

If they think Mittelstadt is gonna score 60 next year and be ok defensively, and they're getting a top pair D man, sure look into it.
Can't remember which game it was, but mitts blew a tire at his own blue line and gave up a breakaway. If that had been ROR, people would be saying "lol selke"
They could have center depth that rivals almost any team next year if the keep him.

Tim Kennedy was also going to be a staple on the 3rd line for this team..
Sekera and Weber were goign to be a great top pairing on our D
Enroth was a #1 goalie
