4x4 - BeadyEyedDouche
Ennis-esque? I feel thats fair.
Either the Sabres get a bargain for a shorter term or he makes money to play in Rochester. Its all up to him with a contract like that.
What's the minimum length deal that would take him to unrestricted free agency? Isn't that the length you would NEVER go? - Lunaion
No?
Let's say you do that, a) the amount you have to pay is less because you're not buying any UFA years and b) you buy all the cheap years.
Let's say you give him a 2 year $8M deal and he improves. Then in 2 years you have to shell out a ton of money. If you do a 4 year $16M deal then you've just saved, let's say, $8M because the cap will have likely gone up and if he's better that means more money and then you're forced to buyout UFA years because another 2 year deal would be idiotic at that point.

*amounts for example only. - Wetbandit1
You think that's Sam? Even if you did, you'd still want a 3 yr....which is why it will be 1 or 2....and hopefully not 7 or 8....but never 4.

I'll take the extra year of paying less in that scenario. 4 years gives you the most years at the cheapest price. 3 years gives you about the same price for the first 3 but then the 4th year through 11 or 12, he'd likely get a long term deal, and then you end up paying more for the 4th year that way.
But I already said 3 for $13M earlier.
I was just having a poke at you for saying they'd never do something like you know what they're thinking.
Ah yes. Not a huge Fastball fan, but "Fire Escape" by them is on my favorite songs of all-time list - and that genre isn't really what i'm into. It's just a damn good song.

This will be exactly Botterils negotiating point, which his agent will counter, and they will arrive at a market value, which half the people on this thread will b!tch about, regardless of what that amount or term will be.
He's 22 and has scored 20 goals 3 years in a row. He's the least of the Sabres problems. And im pretty sure this team isn't going to throw a dump truck of money at him. - seedy
Alright then.
I’m getting in line early to secure the 1st spot...
That f(frank)ing Reinhart, plays 3 years and takes a year off during that span...and the Sabres do what? ... reward him with a $(insert dollar amount & term) contract? What were they thinking.
Hopefully now they can use his under-contract status as a selling point when shopping him for a good young Dman.
Plenty of positives for Buffalo ... fans
. the season is over
. there's hope that most of players won't be on the team next year
. there's hope that Garth may write more about San Jose than the Sabres
. Sabres fans may be able to attend a Stanley cup parade that is less than 2 hrs
away
. there's hope the Sabres get a new coach
. the Sabres will have a top 4 pick in the next draft

So now that last place is locked in and the season is over the Sabres can start their plans for next years disaster. Wait... I really do believe they can finish 2nd to last next season.... This feeling positive is a great thing...
No thanks
He’s still a decent player...
but don’t we wanna get faster?
Plus, at his age he’s likely chasing a Cup
He had a good enough season that he can sign with a good team
Neal is intriguing
Surprised Vegas hasn’t worked out an extension with him yet
He’d be a huge loss - jdfitz77
I was never a vanek fan , but he would maybe want to come back and play with pommer. Also friends/teammates with jbotts.
Vanek could replace nolans speed with 20 more goals.
Neal played under phil in Nashville
Neal was assistant gm'ed under Pittsburgh and jbotts

I would take a James Neil 3 years 5 million a year
He can’t go that’s why he’s irritated
No Contract - gerbe75pts
Would he be invited?
Not sure if hes a top 12 Canadian forward who is eliminated from the nhl playoffs.
I imagine each team of the 15 has 1 or more better Canadian forwards. Such as ror
