With this signing the blues have approximately $3.525 million to sign Eddie and Schmaltz
Someone has to move
Now where does Thomas fit? Does he go to Hamilton again and waste a year
I think a top 9 Has to move so that is Steen or Fabbri IMO - sycsam
Can we just cut Thorburn? He has absolutely no role on this team anymore. Fabbri is making next to nothing so moving Steen would make the most sense. Maybe move Gunnar or even Jbow to free up room?
Eddy Petro
Dunn Parako
Schmaltz Bortz
Extras with Walman Lindbohm etc |

If Army can find a way to make this all fit, he will look like a genius heading into the season. The goaltending is still an issue but on paper this forward unit looks a lot better |

The forward unit is night and day from last year. We've got 5 different guys in our top 9 since the end of last season. This is assuming a guy like Thomas doesn't have a breakout year.
As far as goaltending, as long as we aren't getting an elite goaltender, I'm much more inclined to the roll the dice with Allen rather than give up assets for somebody who may be marginally better. The additions in front may take a lot of heat off of him. |

Scoring takes pressure off the goalie if you only score 1-2 goals a night the goalie is going to play tight
score 4 or 5 and the goalie will play loose |

I was thinking purely in cap space. Jbow and Steen are making the most. Steen still is a great player especially for a 3rd line guy Less wear and more impactful in other critical aspects of the game. |

I doubt they move Steen. They really only need about 1 mil of space, I'd be looking at a guy around that salary like Sundqvist or Jaskin. Might even be able to get a low round pick in return. |

Is jbo or gunnarsson going to start the year on ltir? That would give them some extra time. |

Cutting Thorburn doesn't really do anything for us cap wise. Unless we are going 14 forwards/8 defenseman.
He makes 900k. 1 less forward and replacing him, you aren't saving any money. Maybe 200k? But not really any savings.
If you cut him and go with 8 D, Schmaltz is probably going to get around that. So that still only leaves around 3.3 in space for Edmundson.
I think they are going to either have to move Steen, or move Gunnarsson, JBo, or Bortz and have Schmaltz as one of your 7 D. |

Okay. But Thorburns role is taken now. Especially with Nolan on a 2 way contract. Gunnar make the most sense cause doesn't he make more than 2 a year? Doubt anyone takes Jbow. Bortz plays the right side and we lack depth there At least this is a good problem to have as there should be plenty of time to solve it |

They won't move steen. He and Armstrong are buddy/buddy especially when it comes to what's going on in locker room. My guess is they try and move Gunnar |

Army just said he doesn't anticipate having to make any more moves so I guess he's planning on getting Edmundson signed for around 3 mil. |

I think it will be tough they have 3 RFA Dmen to sign and 3.9 million left
so depends on what Schmaltz and LIndbolm take |

Gunnerson seems the most likely and would be attractive to other teams, if someone has to be moved.
I know Steen will be overpaid over the remaining course of his current contract, and if there was a taker, that would be fine, but he works his butt off. Even when he's not putting up numbers, he lays it all out on the ice.
I'm hard pressed to criticize him. |

I wouldn't trade steen just to trade him but I think he is the one guy that makes serious money with any value
Bo doesn't Gunnar doesn't IMO
Jaskin no way |

Exactly and he is a leader. When he isn't injured he still puts up decent numbers not to mention the small parts of his game.
I have no real issues with Steen other than cap hit.
I like these moves in general but the one negative is that none of these added players offer up an increase in speed. Thankfully they are all smart and good enough to control the game. |

It's not about trade value other than are they good enough for someone to want without costing a pay off for the cap space. I think Gunnar would have suitors and that should be all the money you need.
Signing all three dmen will not count against the cap, only if they are on the team.
All the same there is a chance Army pulls this off without having to make a move if he can sell Eddy on a one year show me deal with a promise to pay him. Which he could do as soon as January. The likely increase in the cap the following season plus the removal of a few contracts should provide sufficient cap room and point to a direction of value on who should stick with the team. |

Really like this 1 year deal, and I can imagine a 5 year, $25M deal getting signed after Jan 1st to lock him up long term.
Armstrong has had a great off-season. |
