Sutter in Pitt could be only a 3C & is now
EG drafted as top 2D but is a 4D
Pouliot drafted as top 4D but is a 5D
Means they are depth & we need elite talent around them. Missing top offensive 2D/3D & top 3 LW (EP) & 1C |

Sutter was taken by Carolina and then traded for Staal when they realized that he wasnt going to be top 6 and PIT wanted a 3C
My point is, despite the promise and hype that came with these guys (and you can add Baertschi and Gagner as other former top picks/prospects), you cant rely on them reaching their ceilings. If you can keep adding more picks in exchange for cap space, then the Canucks should do so. We have seen far too many prospects bust to be confident this pool will being NHLers |

I disagree with your rationale. I am very high on Lockwood, but his injury history is a concern. I am not nearly as high on Palmu, Gadjovich, and most certainly some of those I do like will not pan out anywhere near their projected ceilings.
For me, part of the failure of the Oiler and Sabre rebuilds are the lack of depth. If a key guy goes down or prospect develop as expected, they have nothing to fill in behind. The good teams have prospect pools with depth, and until we can know for certain that the ones we have will be NHLers, I think its in the best interest of the team to continue acquiring future talent.
VAN has acquired many former top prospects who were expected to play big roles on the teams that drafted them in Sutter, Gudbranson, Pouliot, etc. If we start counting our own chickens before they hatch, IMO the depth of this team will be exposed when we are hoping to be contending - WhiteLie
Well said.👍 |

During the basketball tournament held in my community, a moment of silence was held, for the tragic incedent.
Most, if not all of us, have experienced, the travel and/or worriness of these trips , whether they be through sport teams, school events, business occasions, etc.
May the fine city of Humboldt, the survivors and families mourn and may the casualties RIP.

As for the injuries, perhaps it’s time to look at WHO’s getting injured the most and why. Time for a change of scenery for Tanev and Baertschi who I’m assuming make up a good percentage of the injuries. - LeftCoaster
Benning also wants a big forward. - VANTEL

I hearya & agree I only add idc if we recycle those same players for good picks if JB wants to move on. He has shown to try & also to try again. Players like Sven Granlund Hutton Stecher can be trade bait. |

I think Staal was traded because he was going to walk and wanted to play with his brother. Pitt thought Sutter was part of a very good package not that he was not living up to expectations. |

We already have a decent prospect pool and it will be getting stronger is what I am saying. You don't need to go bat ass crazy to get more picks. This stuff about taking on bad contracts is nuts. Why tie yourself down to get a second round pick? There will be teams cap struck that can't protect all their players like Panarin or yes even back to Erhoff. Deals like that are good not taking on Brent Seabrook for seven years for the 15 th pick |

EK says 2 years. They are in a rebuild if people forget. Now they are signing 35 year olds. Mixed messages. Mentoring the youth how not to play? |

Every year is about the same thing for drafts. Only so many players actually make the NHL even less make an actual impact.
Ben hutton is 31st in scoring in the 2012 draft.
Baertschi is 22nd and Granlund is 30th in 2011.
Gagner is 8th in scoring in his 2007 draft. That will probably change over time.
The expectation on the players drafted is just way too high. Outside the top 15 in any draft I only expect a couple of players to be more then a top 6 forward or a top 4 dman. |

Bizarre choice for Kovalchuk. Thought he would have gone to a contender for sure. |

I think hes too expensive for most contenders. He wants to win, but i think he likes money more than winning. |
