sabres had just gotten blown out in consecutive games giving up six goals in each and looking like the keystone cops on the back end...the next two games they played much better but still lost--by one goal to sjs and two goals (one empty netter) to lak...they beat ana the next game for their first win of the season and lost in the shootout to vgk...

he was a plus-1 in those games skating an average of over 14 minutes...

After 2 disappointing seasons in a row for Dallas, you’d think they might wanna shake things up a bit

Pittsburgh and Chicago have proven you need multiple top 3 picks to build a dynasty. It's surrounding these players with free agents, trades, and drafting outside of the first round that Buffalo can't seem to figure out. Between Nylander, marner, matthews, reilly, kadri, JVR, and marleau the leafs have 7 guys who were selected in the first 8 picks of their respective drafts.

Yeah, I don't know, maybe hoping for growth out of Guhle and Nelson, maybe Borgen can come in part way through the season like Guhle, hopefully earlier though. A healthy McCabe would help.

The biggest thing we need is a clear cut 1D, then a good 2nd pair that way the top pair isn't playing 27 minutes a night. Maybe that 2nd pair can be Guhle and Nelson at some point, but I feel like they play the same-ish style, so maybe that's not ideal.

Bogo in limited minutes ala Weber and Franson at their end would be ok.

I think that’s pretty good going forward
Especially when u consider that McCabe is th oldest of that group at age 24

If Sam stays on RORs wing, then you’d assume that Okposo is playing with Eichel next year
I don’t like his contract,
but playing with Jack all year i could see him being a legit scorer like he was with Tavares

Pouliot never even came close to meeting his draft expectations

And Bogosian does look great at times,
but it’s so few & far between bc of the injuries & inconsistency

So yeah,
I agree that none of the 3 are really “top10” talents
They all are decent players to varying degrees though
I mainly just posted them bc i thought some would be surprised they were drafted so high

Most would agree the core is incomplete and that we need to keep adding to it. I struggle to understand how a team can add legitimate core players without doing one of three things:

1) drafting high for a while
2) trading a boatload of prospects
3) trading current core players who haven't pulled their weight for core players who may be a better fit

We botched #1 by getting less value out of those picks than we should have
