This is chicken and egg though.
Over the past 3 years prior to this, Scandella averaged 7.38 goals per 82 games
This year he scored 5, playing the most minutes of his career.
NB had 4 goals and 28 points in 74 games last year in MTL.
This year, 1 goal and 9 points in 59 games
The forwards effect D scoring and vice-versa. NONE of it is close to being on par - sbroads24
All this tells me is that both groups, as groups, are bad. |

Agreed, that's what I'm trying to say. It's a tire fire all around.
There's no quick fix to this.
The only way I see a quick Colorado like turnaround is us landing Dahlin, CM is a ROY candidate, and we get a Vezina like performance from a new goaltender |

Our defense and its ability to create offense was no doubt a problem. The best teams have four defensemen with significant offensive production.
Nashville had 3 defensemen score more than 0.7 ppg and four above 0.4
Tampa had 3 defensemen above 0.4
Vegas had 5 above 0.4
Washington, SJ and Toronto had 3
Boston had 2
Buffalo had Risto. If your dmen aren't going to score, they need to be shutdown and they need to move the play. Beaulieu, Gorges, McCabe, Falk don't really do that, and Bogo does sometimes, if he's ever on the ice to begin with. - TheSabresTaco
Those two are probably done here. Nelson might be gone too, and they would miss his 8p in 37g. I assume they'll tender Beaulieu an offer. I don't think they'd let an RFA walk for free. Antipin, stay, go, not sure it matters.
Next year's D as it looks today
Risto
McCabe
Scandella
Bogo
Beaulieu
Guhle
Antipin?
Idk what the answer is there. I guess hope that bogo stays healthy, if you can't move him. Doesn't look good |

A couple smart trades and some breakout performances from a couple prospects could get it turned around. I commend Botts for throwing a flier at Bowl-U. But I think it's going to take more than flier trades to get real talent here. Agree it won't be quick, but next season can be a lot less painful with smart moves with talent AND culture in mind. |

Nothing on that list tells me that group as a whole will perform much better. Is it better than this past year? Who knows. Lot of assumptions. Bowls is just sucky and counting on Bogo to be here for more than 40 games is folly. Antipin is ok. But that group is missing a top 2 guy. |

Beaulieu isn't RFA, he has another year.
I think Nelson is RFA. No one seems to know for sure.

It's a change, sure. But a wrench? Nah.
Guards, good guards, can be had in the mid rounds. more than half of the best guards in the league are mid round picks. K Williams was a 5th. Incognito was a 3rd.
They're going to need to grab one in this draft. And personally I think they were already intending to, based on Kyle considering retiring after this season. |
