But it's a factor. That contract affects how many good players you can afford to put around him, therefor affecting how good player "A" under contract needs to perform in order to get a desired result. Unless results don't matter. - Buffalo--Sabres
No, I agree. I just don't hold the player accountable because of his paycheck. ROR is exactly who he has always been, right or wrong? 55-65 points a year. Dumb A$$ Murray is the one I blame for paying the guy 7.5 large a year.

Eichel is the Captain of this team. Give him the C, bring in a character vet to be the A and let him mentor Eichel behind the scenes.
Delaying the inevitable is (frank)ing stupid. He single-handedly drags this team kicking and screaming to win games. He's stopped the outbursts which I found refreshing, but most on here complained about as being immature and female dogy. What more does he have to do to finally be handed the keys to the [busted] lambo??

Seriously. And it's almost as if simple math can't even be considered.
The BEST faceoff man in the league, wins 1 more out of 10 than someone who's right at the average.
1 more out of 10 - sbroads24
When the Sabres traded for ROR they and we knew he wasn't an 80 pt player. He was a high 50-low 60 pt all around player. Well, they got it who is depressed because of losing. If he was ecstatic after losing and collecting a nice paycheck I would be more worried. |

Analogy time.
If there were no salary cap your original statement that the contract falls on the GM(who's no longer here anyways) would be 100% true.
O'Reilly's contract is like a car payment in a family with a budget. The cost of that payment needs maximum value, so that funds and resources can be dispersed evenly to ensure a sound budget. Now if you're rich as hell, it doesn't matter if you go to the dealer and overpay like a fool for a car. It just depends on how you use the car. But due to the salary cap, Pegula's wealth is mitigated. |

even as a quitter he still managed 61 points...I don't think he's the leader a.) he thinks he is or b.) the leader this team needs...
i'm to the point where i'd trade him, skunk and a first rounder (protected) for Tavares and sign him to a $12M aav for seven years...
Tavares has those qualities lacking in Buffalo - Michael Pachla
Wow , that's interesting.

Oh, McDavid is at 41.4% Super bust. Faceoffs just don't matter as much as the Cryin' O' Reilly apologists would like to believe. |

Yeah, which is the part where I turn a blame Pegula. He allowed all of this nonsense to spiral out of control. |

In fairness, he also paints himself as something he has never been and is depressed because he isn't.

I get all that. I'm saying for me, I don't blame the player for what they make. They don't sign themselves to the contracts, agents and GM's do... Ultimately it on the GM because at the end of the day they have the final say in things....in the case of ROR, he is exactly who he always has been. Right or wrong? 60 point guy, great face off guy, two way player.

Couture looks very similar to O'Reilly, and I never saw this season coming from William Karlsson. I still don't know where it came from. - kingcong39
Couture is very, very good. Tied for 15th in EV goals amongst centers, actually higher considering they have Eberle and Konecny listed at C.
I don't think anyone saw Karlsson having this season |

I think the sentiment was that he was going to be more once he was out of Mackinnon/Duchene/Landeskog's shadow. He wanted to be that guy.
The point totals, faceoffs, smart play is there. I don't dispute that.
The total lack of leadership shows, on and off the ice. He rarely seems to step up and take control or charge of a game.
For the assets and $$ paid to get him, that's the dissapointing part

He tried to paint himself as a leader. Leading by example on and off the ice. Did he succeed or fail in the leadership dept? |

Not as of now but ROR is honest and all of a sudden he's a quitter. Other guys feel the same way and i'm sure it takes a toll on you over the years(s) but he's a quitter. But because he makes 7.5 a year he can't say anything. - SABRES 89
Disagree, listen to his comments today. McDavid wasn't ready either! |
