ROR admitted to everyone that he is not a leader, not a guy young players can look up to. He was never brought in on a team that was poised to lose. HE was brough in the same year as Eichel. The first year this team was on the rise. Then they fell flat on their face. ROR was brought in to be one if not the key piece to turn this franchise around, he has proved, he is not someone that can do that. - ImThatGuy
from what I recall he, along with bogo, kane and Lehner, was brought in to take the weight off of the youngsters coming through the system...
it turned into one heavy weight |
|
|
|
I'm confused, are you sticking up for O'Reilly or saying he isn't mentally tough enough?
This has now become a Kane/Bogo thing somehow - sbroads24
you asked where he was in the beginning of the year?...I said surrounded by scrubs, as they've been called so many times over the past couple of seasons |
|
|
|
Dude is just all talk he could have been easily the captain of this franchise and we all thought he was going to be it the 2nd year
Now let's look at Jack eichel he turned his whole attitude around to be the face of the franchise and he's going to get the C now - gerbe75pts
the same Eichel that's been accused of floating through his young career?...has been accused of being a coach-killer...the same one who was abrasive and condescending with the media for his first couple of seasons? |

SO you are saying he cant handle pressure? I am generally confused on whether you believe in him or not.
I also don't really believe that. Yes Murray made some awful, awful moves. But before we even knew that this team was destined to be this bad, ROR admitted he just wasn't up to playing hockey. he accepted the fact that this team was going to lose, again BEFORE THEY PLAYED A SINGLE GAME.
That is not a guy I want on this team. |

I haven't really been following the top draft eligible players this year. Outside of Dahlin, who do you guys think we should draft if we are picking #2, #3 or #4? - 100goalseason
2- Svechnikov
3-Zadina
4- Boqvist,Hughes, Whalstrom, TK, Bouchard. |

The key here is Eichel admitted that his first year was bad, he admitted that he needed to grow up and handle himself better with the media. Eichel has never been accused of floating, If he has i missed it and would love to find the person who said he was. |

He has been accused. But he certainly hasn't for most of the year. he had a bad start, but he's easily been the best player since 12/1. |

and what was going on in his mind when that bad start was happening?...
it would be interesting to see the reaction from players on this team to o'Reilly's comment...
does anyone here think skunk was lovin the game early in the season?...or Okposo?...or Scandella? |

Let's not forget Jack eichel could have just stayed home for the rest of the season I'm sure the Sabres would have welcomed it ..
but he is a fierce competitor and he wanted to play
Can we say the same thing about Ryan O'Reilly? |

Jack Eichel - "We're going to change things around here"
Ryan O'Reilly "I lost my love for the game at times"
One deserves the C
The other is a C.U.N..... |

the irony in all of this is that the usually cliche'-driven ryan o'Reilly offered up a brutally honest assessment of the toll losing has taken on him as a player...
and he's getting chastised about it...
although I haven't gone through all the interviews, i'd bet that either a.) his quote wasn't brought up or b.) when it was brought up, a cliché was thrown back for an answer...
in saying that, i'm sure that nobody was loving the game early in the season...it was an out of control train rolling off of a cliff and i'd hazard to guess that most players on that team either felt deeply what o'reilly felt or certainly could relate to it |

A lot of this is on gionta. He was not the guy to help bring along the next wave of leaders. Steve Ott was a way better leader imo.
Gionta = most overrated captain in sabres history |

I'm sure guys like Nic Baptiste, Justin Bailey, Casey Nelson, and others who are fighting to be full time NHL'ers were there to consol O'Reilly and his 56 mil contract for his loss of passion.
Good god, imagine if a fringe NHL'er or prospect said this |

Here's what rustles my jimmies.
I relate to him. I absolutely do. I've played sports most of my life, and I've played on some very good and some very bad teams. However, if one of the reasons you are there, being paid more than your counterparts, is for leadership, and you say you lose passion instead of working harder to fix the overall issue (culture), then you simply shouldn't be a leader. Go be a Larsson.
Okposo is ready to work and make this team better. Eichel same. That's what leaders do. They lead. ROR has failed as a leader. I empathize with his feelings of being beaten and broken (he DID say he started the very first game feeling like that, so wtf), but it's up to the leaders to get up or shut up.
Growing up in sports, this is how I feel. A leader doesn't back down and a leader doesn't quit. |
