It wasn't half, but it was like 6 or 7 this past year, which is still a lot.

Speaking of that team, I actually thought this team was more talented than the team that won gold in 2017. The one year the US wasn't anywhere near the top of the tournament in goaltending...

- buffalofan19

it probably was, but it's weird that they couldn't show up for sweden and slovakia.

Come on, often injured Eichel and his 65 points at 10 mil is a bargain. ROR and his 61 points at 7.5 is a disaster.
- Hatboro_Swords

I missed where Eichel made 10 mil this season.

It’s an interesting theory

2 big issues with it though

First,
The potential lockout is in the 20-21 season
https://www.google.com/am...020-21-work-stoppage/amp/

Second,
that’s potentially 3 more wasted years of Jack

Worth thinking about
But do u really want your franchise player going through 6 years of non-stop sucking?
I’d say no

- jdfitz77

my mistake, either side can void the end in 19-20 to lead to lockout in 20-21

Goaltending killed them against Sweden, and to some extent Slovakia as well. Oettenger, the guy who won it in the outdoor game, was the better goaltender, but they went with Woll instead. That said, neither had great years coming into the tournament.

id say mid 1st, a top 5 prospect from that team but not their best guy and a decent top 9 forward made expendable because they've acquire ROR.

I think that's a realistic return I'd be happy with, mostly because I'm not a fan of his contract.

- Sabresfan-365

I wouldn’t do that

Mid first is still a toss up for the most part
(as far as becoming a “core” player)

The prospect of wamt would most likely be a team’s best or 2nd best prospect

And i could care less about a decent top9 roster player
Those guys are easy to acquire/develop
No value there to me at all

Trading ROR absolutely must be for a guy we know will be part of our “core” going forward
Anything on top of that (other picks/prospects) is gravy

It's not un precedented. Stamkos spent 5 of his first 6 years out of a playoff spot.

Tavares something similar as well.

I don't think they'll get a core guy for ROR because he isn't one.

Sam Reinhart or Ryan O’Reilly aren’t one of the “top guys” on either of those teams.

That’s the problem

- sbroads24

Well Eichel also isn’t Crosby

Do u go on Cap Friendly?
Make these O’Reilly & Sam & Risto trades you think we should do we we can see the lineup you’d come up with

I keep hearing u say to get rid of guys
But we haven’t heard your ideas about who we are bringing in to make us a contender

I watched the outdoor game back (fast forwarding through dead parts and snow shoveling, of course) the other day because I was bored. That game was so much fun to be at.

To be fair, that line of thinking isn't unique just to this fanbase. A lot of "old school" GM's still think this way, which is why trading him now is such a good idea. He will fetch more than he's worth.

Oh I know. Hockey people are dumber than football people.
