It was tweeted by LeBrun, but no one else said it, including Botterill when he listed conditions. Who knows? It probably is, it's pretty much boilerplate at this point that it doesn't even bear mentioning. |

Holy poop, if this thread wasn't 2 people going back and forth, and back and forth, and back and forth, and back and forth, and back and forth it would be like 9 pages instead of 26. |

So what determines whether it is a 2019 or 2020? - Hatboro_Swords
I tried to find the exact wording of it
Might be a 2019 1st no matter what
Looks like the only condition is whether or not it’s a 1st or 2nd
But if it is “lotto protected” then that would mean SJ could choose to keep the 2019 pick, but we’d then get a 1st in 2020
We wouldn’t just lose the pick
I think it’s the other pick, the 4th in 2019 that will change to a 2020 3rd IF the Sharks choose to keep the 2019 4th
Idk if that helps,
or makes it more confusing
Sorry |

They didn’t know Hamilton was a core player when the trade was made.
You need to give yourselves the opportunity to hit a home run.
We need home runs right now.
Otherwise we heading right towards mediocrity - sbroads24
They also had a pretty good idea that the Leafs were gonna suck
https://www.hockey-refere...e.com/teams/TOR/2010.html
So they were getting TWO cracks at a very high pick
I don’t want a “CHANCE at a home run”
We already have that with our own picks
If we are trading O’Reilly,
it has to be for a “core” player
Otherwise,
He does a good enough job here, in a difficult role, that i feel we can keep bringing in players around him & he can be part of us becoming a really good team
So if you’re telling me you’d trade O’Reilly for pick 14 & a prospect,
I’d say no way
( EDITED)
Give me something like Dunn + from StL
Or Bellows + from NyI
Gotta be something like that
It can’t be for Philly’s #14 & a prospect the equivalent of Baptiste (who projects as a 3rd liner) |

Boland was the 2C for the Hawks when they were winning Cups
He was slow
He wasn’t nearly as good as O’Reilly

The three ROY candidates are all mid to late first rounders.
You need to draft well.
I’m no worries about O’Reilly leaving. He left one team and they survived somehow because they drafted a star in Rantanen 10th (I think) and a few other good players.
Bruins survived losing Seguin because they drafted Pastrnak and McAvoy
We need to hit on those picks regardless of trading O’Reilly or not. Otherwise it’s just spinning our wheels |

It’s official, if Bills don’t trade up to get one of the top QBs (Rosen for me) I want them to stay put and draft Mike White in the 2nd. He reminds me too much of Jimmy Garopps. Go with OL and another position of need in 1st, White and Chark in the 2nd. If you haven’t seen some of the free agents in 2019, take a look. 100 mil in cap space and you got guys like Zack Martin, Taylor Lewan, Deone Bucannon and Anthony Barr to name a few hopefully still available. Playoff caliber

When there were whispers of a trade at the deadline with Philly it centred around Lehner/Johnson and a Reinhart going the other way not ROR. Doubt either of them gets traded there though. |

We’re on the same page with Chark. F it, take him with the 2nd in round one if you have to. Bills have a pretty good pedigree with Tigers. The LSU ones, not Clemson |

Of course we need to draft well...
but it’s still a bit of a crapshoot
When trading a player like O’Reilly,
i want something more certain than Baptiste & pick 13
Just bc the ROY candidates are mid-round picks, doesn’t mean that we’d choose them
We just as easily could take guys that end up being average like Girgensons,
even though they look great at the time
How exactly will keeping O’Reilly prevent us from building the rest of the team into a contender?
His salary isn’t an issue
U know we aren’t contenders NEXT year,
no matter what we do
After next season we have over 20mil in Cap space
And that’s with Sam re-signed around 4mil
Salaries like Pommer, Bogo, Okposo...
those need to go
Keeping ROR doesn’t stop Mitts or Nylander or Guhle or whoever we pick this year from potentially becoming really good player
Trading him for parts certainly doesn’t help unless we hit that mid-late round “home run”
How often does that happen? |

I just used Philly as an example bc they pick at 14,
and Sbroads said he’d take a top15 pick & “b” prospect for O’Reilly
I would hate that return |

No, but desperate GMs do dumb things
And i gotta think that Montreal’s GM is on the hot seat
It was a trade Gerbe posted that was proposed by Habs fans
And if that’s all u took from my post,
then just don’t bother
The point is...
Trade ROR for a “core” piece,
not for a “chance at a HR” (which is a long shot)
Otherwise,
He’s a good player we can win with
He’s not the problem
At least his production isn’t
I obviously can’t speak to any behind the scenes stuff that may or may not be going on |
