if mitts, guhle, baptiste, bailey and Ullmark are on the roster as projected, that's five rookies added to the lineup, not even counting your boy Nylander...the sabres have erod, Antipin and possibly nelson coming back as full time nhl'ers for the first time in their careers next season...those eight or nine are on top of a core that probably begins with Eichel and reinhart who are entering their four full season...
it's a lot of youth to have within a losing culture - Michael Pachla
What's 1 more year of building with youth?
I just cant watch the Sabres purposely bringing in old vets, so they are just just filling in for a top draft pick the following season.
Examples.
Cristo
Griffith
Tennyson
Redmond
Nolan
Pouiout
Basically guys on their last nhl team |

I don't buy it either, mostly cause all of Risto's numbers have gotten better. I just don't think he's a top pairing guy and the Sabres already have a handful of guys who can/will be able to play 2nd pair minutes. - Sabresfan-365
I think if he’s with a star like Dahlin he’d be fine.
But that’s not really saying a ton.
If you can swap Risto for say Galchenyuk and then flip ROR for a top 10-15 1st plus good prospect, we start to turn things around |

I cant even imagine the crying when risto turns out to be a better defenseman than both zadarov and myers.
Risto needs work in the d end ,but it's going to be hard to replace his minutes, toughness and scoring. - Boss34
Now we are trading our best D man when our Defense is still horrible, makes sense. |

I find it really interesting what Hamilton said about him being at the top of the list of guys who haven’t listened to two coaches in a row now. - sbroads24
I could see risto not listening to either coach.
Both coaches have huge flaws.
Bylsma leaves Pittsburgh- they win 2 Stanley cups
Phil leaves Nashville- they put up more points and win the presidents trophy
Maybe the young guys think they know more about hockey, especially when your losing all the time "trying " to fit into a system |

I DO NOT want to trade risto. Love his game.
Best buffalo defenseman since Brian Campbell 15 years ago.
Probably has the most value other then eichel |

If we win the lottery, we could afford to make a trade of one of our good players. I probably still wouldn't, but we could afford to. If we're picking 3 or 4, I just don't see how it would help.
Of course, I have no idea what a deal would look like |

Trading him would be like throwing out a porterhouse because there's not enough filet on it |

Come on now
They added more scoring over the offseason and added Turris
But yeah it's Phil's fault?

It's not that hard to follow:
If the Sabres get Dahlin, Risto would be moved for forward help
If the Sabres draft 2nd or 3rd ROR would be moved for blue line help
At least that's the theory and one that actually makes a little sense. |

This is why I think bringing in Lindy Ruff as assistant could do a lot of good for the team.
He would hopefully demand the discipline Housley doesnt seem to command. |

Everyone is tradable. But certain guys have more value to this team than others. Flipping talented players for a bunch of picks guarantees we suck for more years. But hey, as long as everyone is fast, right. |

Why do we even need to trade Risto? If we pick #1 we take Dahlin, if we pick outside of #1 we take a winger and then trade ROR for a Dman. Montreal is rumored to be interested in ROR, maybe they'd be willing to part with their 1st + for him. Svech and Bodqvist sounds pretty good. |

Not sure if I've seen anything positive out of phil?
Name something, maybe I'm missing?
Soft spoken
Guys admit to giving up and losing the love of the game under his coaching
Worst record in franchise history
11 home wins
Sabres were flat at the beginning of games.
The defense didn't score until 1/4 of the way thru the season, which is his expertise.
Assembled a soft group of easy to play against players
Destroyed the #1 pp
Hired bad assistants
The only thing phil did:
Help get Jack signed, by not being a yeller.
Phil was dealt a bad deck of cards but, any positives?

I don't think we need to trade Risto
ROR seems like the most likely candidate, however it all depends on the packages.
Hell both ROR and Risto could get moved and in the long right it might be beneficial.
It all depends on the packages
If you could get a scoring winger for Risto and a good 2/3 defensemen for ROR I would pull the trigger.
Chances are you would save cap space, Risto and ROR combined make up almost $13 million in cap hits.
But I doubt both get moved. |
