that's not the logic. The logic is, the contracts you listed can't be moved. ROR's can and it can be moved for a good haul to boot. - Sabresfan-365
Any contract can be moved for the right price. And so far, the proposed trades seem a far distance from a "good haul" |

You want to move over 20 million in bad contracts?
One with a no move clause?
They all have negative value to a varying degree. Moving all of those players will deplete this team of short and long term players. Guaranteed. |

his even strength scoring was comparable to 3rd liners and his zone entry numbers taken over a 13 game span were less than jordan freaking nolan.
mid 1st rounder, good prospect and decent roster player would in fact be a haul.
And yes im sure if we packaged picks and prospects with bogo and okposo we could move them. That kinda seems like backwards logic given where the team is at |

No, I don't want to do that, but one off the arguments for trading ror is to clear cap space, even though we don't need to clear cap space

Pommer, albeit overpayed, is fine for another year. The leadership is nice, and if you can manage to stick him with not-Larsson, he can put up 30-40 points. As long as he has a chance to play that role.
Okposo is going no where. He sounds like he has the drive to improve his skating this summer. He comes back as a 60 point guy, we're golden.
Moulson and Bogo, no one will touch those contracts. Buy one out if you need to. Otherwise, whatever. |

Agreed.
The unpleasant truth is that this team needs a huge overhaul.
I do not in any way think GMJB will be moving anything for pennies on the dollar unless its one of BOGO, Moulson.
With that in mind, there are very few pieces outside of Eichel that have ANY value at all and regardless of how much people like RoR on this team (I think he is a good player, but I dont think he is a good fit here) he is probably the piece of highest value.
If you can get equal value to RoR back in a trade you do it all day.
By the time this team is good RoR will be an even slower, probably more whiny, 7.5 million dollar third line center with no leadership qualities.
So, you trade him now while he can get a return no matter his production because he still has value and could potentially create a big enough deal to really shake up this team. |

That's not really the basis of the argument though. The basis is that he's overpaid. The guys with analytical hard-ons will shout it from the rooftops how he's a boardline 3rd line player.
I like to hang out in both the eye test and analytical realms, and believe he is still a valuable top 6 center that can have better ES points with a better team around him (not a needle mover in ES). But for what he provided this year, he is overpaid. A guy that costly needs to be more important. So when or if you trade him, and I'll say it until I'm blue in the face, you need short and long term value. That is, if you want to see this team succeed any time soon. Trading him for picks makes this team worse for the next few years, unless those picks become Clayton Keller and Charlie McAvoy at the beginning of the 2018 season. |

Give Eichel the 'C' trade O'Rielly for whatever you can get for no retention. Draft BPA, keep Ristolainen he's 23.
No one would take Okposo. Can Bogosian be traded is he LTIR?
Keep Sam Reinhart.
Try and acquire a better goalie than Lehner.
Make a good offer to Tavares/Carlson (doubtful they come but why not)
Outside of those two sign only value contracts like the Leafs did a few years ago. 1 year deals for guys with something to prove. Maybe you miss the playoffs again next year but you're closer, the young guys still have to earn roles and you have desirable assets at the deadline. |

I mostly agree with this. Not bad, Leafs guy. Casually tossing ROR like a used condom is bad management, and I'm sure we can get quality value for him.
Don't think we can afford Tavares. Curious to see what happens to him. If his agent expressed interest in Buffalo, trade ROR immediately. |

You could offer Tavares 15 mill a year and I bet he wouldn't sign here. Frying pan to the fire. |

If you retained salary I agree. At 7.5 getting what you guys want is tough.
Must be frustrating because it reminds me of the Kessel situation a bit. You know he'll go somewhere and fit in nicely and play well, but there's a lot of money and term left on that contract and perception around the league can be mixed.

Honest question.
Based on the eye test, does he look like a threat to score goals when he’s out on the ice ? |

Sure. You find the right situation, and our GM recognizes, let's call it the Kessel Effect, ROR can have his value increased.
"I know he's 'ok' here, but put him with linemates x and y, he becomes a 65-70 point player. I'm even retaining 1.5 mil in salary (celery). Give me something big in return" |

I don't think well ever see ROR put up 75, it's not impossible but I just don't see it.
I'd try my best to fleece Benning in the Canucks. He'd be a good fit there. |
