8 2 7 8 1 - Nighthawk
I'm using those numbers when I bet the Woodbine racetrack this weekend. |

"But as Vancouver discovered last summer, pursuing “speed and skill” and actually improving it are entirely different animals.
The Canucks thought they were getting loads of the good stuff when they signed six free agents in a 24-hour stretch that kicked off last year’s free-agency period.
Alex Burmistrov was pitched as a great gamble, Sam Gagner was billed as a bargain, Michael Del Zotto was going to add wheels and power-play points, goalie Anders Nilsson was viewed as a potential starter and Anton Rodin represented the scoring depth.
It all looks crazy now, but that’s the promise of July.
None of it worked out anywhere close to what was hoped.
And if Thomas Vanek hadn’t been signed in September, the post-draft off-season would have been a face plant.
The Canucks head into this off-season again looking for “speed and skill.”
Botchford throwing darts at the Canucks/Benning.....can't says I blame him even though I think he's a knob! - LeftCoaster
I think Gagner and MDZ both helped and will continue to help the team , decent signings short term. Weirchioch was depth and played a big role and really helped the Comets. Vanek was a bargain . 4 for 6 not bad. |

That's because their pro scouting is absolutely horrendous. |

U18 are on in Russia. K'Andre Miller after the game vs Canada and a period against the Swiss, is helping his draft stock. He's better then both Samuelsson's. - manvanfan
Draft site has him as our second round pick . He looks pretty good |

Gagner was paid 750 k too much and signed a year to long but other than that I am not complaining. He is a stop gap not a game changer. He filled in when asked to play. He was showing signs of life at the end of the year. A lot of UFAs take a while to get settled with new team |

2nd last to 6th last so yeah I suppose they did help, you could probably hang three of those spots directly on Boeser though? |

Didnt the team move up those 4 spots after Boeser got injured? |

Gagner was tied for 6 th in goals with 10, and 5 th in pts with 31 . That is stop gap numbers . Benning did over pay him and signed him too long but not horrible. Also look at his line mates he had for most of the year.
This team has not scored for years. Hopefully it changes now. Big summer ahead |

I do too, the mix of players they ice is well balanced. The young guys are bringing energy and contributing. |

I think Gagne’s numbers will go up by a large margin next season. He knows his season was sub par. |

Well he won't have Burmistrov and Gaunce to help him pad his points anymore so we will see
I will be okay if he puts up 30-40 pts . He is not a key part of the team |

true I think he caps out at 40 pts. |

Babcock not sounding to happy with Matthews and Nylander, for their lack of compete level. |

40 points is fine for a stop gap as Lind then can take 2-3 years on the Comets |

Regular season players that disappear in PO's. Happens to many players.
Marner has played fantastic however...guy competes anywhere on the ice.
Said it before PO's started. Anderson was down to .898 over his last 10-12 reg season games and the leafs have zero shut down dmen to deal with the Bergeron/Marchand/Pastrnak line. Even with Bergeron out they couldn't deal with it.
No shock to see the results. Maybe TO can pry Brodie and Hamonic out of Calgary |

A week until draft lottery and I sure hope we win a top 3 ball. Number one is obvious but if we win 2 or 3 I would take a forward and try to fix one problem per year .
Using a 1-10 scale to look at the team overall .
Goal 6
LHD 7 Edler MDZ OJ Sautner Hutton (Trade)
RHD 5 Tanev Stecher Biega Gudbrandson Pouliot
Forwards 6
My hope is to draft a top 6 forward and hopefully trade using Tanev to acquire a second top 6 forward and move up to a 7.5 ranking .
The RHD is going to take time and I hope suffer this year and try to fix in free agency in 2019 |

Jim should be calling the teams with reported interest in Tavares and asking them which contracts they want to get rid of and what assets come with it so they can land him!
Spezza + a 2nd for X ? Something bad. Gone after 1 year.
Mike Green, only 32, had a good year on a bad team. Cheaper than Carlson!
Maybe offer 2 X 6M
Spezza can be 2-3C.
Dmen:
Edler - Tanev
Guddy - Green
MDZ - ?

he's been my choice in the second round for a while, unfortunately he might slide into the late 1st round if he keeps this up. |

Green would help us a lot on the powerplay, as long as he didn't need a NTC of any kind I would sign him for sure. Lots of potential for him to turn into a solid tdl guy. Problem is he likely wants to win. |
