Please give me better examples of Sabres mid-to-late firsts in the last 15 years. 10 or later

I’m glad we are using our most disappointing prospect + our worst first rounders for this example
- sbroads24

Well what are the odds that a mid-late 1st becomes Pasternak,
as opposed to Girgs or Grigo

If it was 75% then I’m with ya
But it’s probably more like 25%
Or even less

I didn’t realize Botterill GM’ed the team that long

So Botterill is gonna pick the guys you want. ROR costs what he costs. He brings a ton to the team. If you're gonna trade him - which I'm not against! - it needs to be for something smarter than a lottery ticket

It's really basic math. If Jack and Casey weigh heavily toward ozone starts, even if a 4th line center is heavy dzone, the remainder is still heavy dzone, but lower TOI.

That's just centers though, we have a terrible collection of defensive wingers.....wingers period, really.

- Lunaion

I hear ya,
but i believe none of Pitt’s top3 lines were excessively used in the def zone

Another option,
put Mitts on the wing with Jack

This who,e ROR trade value came up from Gerbe’s (of course) suggestion to trade him to Montreal for their 1st this year...which would be 4th if the lottery held true to the position earned by points...or could be 1 - 7 with Lottery.

I’m not sure how it devolved into a Girgenson type player I’m not sure...and I can’t believe anyone would subscribe to it...

So save us the 12 pages of bickering.

NOW, about a Risto ... if we could get a Larsson type player, pull the trigger Botts...let’s go!
Jesus Christ!

Is Botts gonna “hit” at an average much higher than the rest of the league though?

Being serious here
Seems like you guys are just assuming Botts won’t make mistakes like everyone else does

I have far more confidence in Botterill's drafting ability than Regier or Murray. It really isn't that high of a bar.

Because if we trade ROR then we are A LOT more likely to get a mid round pick for him

Of course I’d move him for #4 if Montreal gets that desperate

Murray was a scout. Say what you will about his trades and contracts, he knew prospects. Mid-to-late firsts are, and always have been, luck of the draw. Botterill could get lucky, for sure, but to trade a known, bankable commodity of 20g, 60p, 2pims a year, for a chance to draft someone who may be better than mediocre in 3 years is a bad business plan

If you look, I think you'll find otherwise. Malkin has always been crazy high ozone, so someone's making up for that.

They didn't go that way with Casey, so I doubt they change courses. RoR on Jack's wing makes a little sense.

Here’s my attempt at changing it up...

Minny needs Cap room for big raises to Dumba & Zucker

So take back Ennis for a year to get a better deal on a trade for Niederreiter

What would we have to give up in that instance?

Well then was Crosby playing in the Def zone a lot?
I didn’t think so

And I’m pretty sure the Kessel line didn’t get heavy Def zone time

They made it work somehow

Is Montreal that desperate though?
Their GM better do something

It’s been commonly stated on here by the “trade ROR” guys that they’d take a mid1st & “b” prospect for him
