Don’t we technically have all the power ?

I don’t see a team Offersheeting him

More or less. But you can't just sit there and lowball any RFA. They can just not sign. Or you can drag negotiations out and damage your standing with the player. There's a lot of factors that need to be looked into, and comparables will set a benchmark, more or less.

Sam Reinhart comparables, graded as a winger (on paper only)

-Sam Reinhart, signed at 22 for ???, 0.58 ppg

-Brandon Saad, signed at 22 for 6 million, 0.61 ppg (2015)
-Jonathan Huberdeau, signed at 22 for 4.33 million, 0.58 ppg (2015)
-Andre Burakovsky, signed at 22 for 3 million, 0.48 ppg (2017)
-Jamie Benn, signed at 23 for 5.25 million, 0.72 ppg (2013)
-Nikita Kucherov, signed at 23 for 4.76 million, 0.71 ppg (2016)

My guess is that he gets something close to a Huberdeau contract. 4.5 for 3-6 years.

We need defense and wingers. Whether the pick is between 4-6. You are getting a defenseman or winger that is better then anyone we currently have on the roster.

not sure Nylander and McCabe, or their comparables from montreal, are better than anyone the sabres have on their current roster...Nylander has proven nothing so far and McCabe looks to be a solid #4 at best

Like many here, you're writing off Nylander way too soon. The kid had a bad injury this year and at the end of the season, when finally healed, he started to show he can play. Trading Nylander so soon could very well bite us big time.

they're presently selecting fourth overall...if the sabres could pull that off, i'd say go for it...problem is, I don't think the habs would go for that
- Michael Pachla

It’s most likely a dream scenario but I think he would be a good fit
And he’s “ Canadian “

I'm willing to go there. It looks like Toronto got Keith Primeau and we got Wayne

what about Vancouver? Petterson looks like he'll be their future 1C, but who do they have as a 2C? ROR could slot in nicely.

Vancouver might do it this year...they're sitting sixth...but i'd have to believe that it's top-3 protected

Nylanders value is low right now. So what do we get by trading him? A second round at best? And, the other team gets a 20 year old winger who still has the potential to be as good or better than his brother. Way too early to close the book on Nylander, but we'll keep on waiting for guy's like Bailey to come around.

That Huberdeau contract that you posted seems pretty comparable If we can get him for 4 m that be pretty good .. I can’t remember didn’t he win rookie of the year though ?

I'm only suggestion Montreal or Vancouver trades their pick after they know where they slot in the draft. No one is trading away a chance at Dahlin or Svech.

I'd hold on to him, but if a team covets him as a big piece in a deal, I'd let him go pretty quickly

Keyword, though... "Big Piece" in the deal. He shouldn't be considered a throw away.

These are tough to include because of them becoming star players during that time frame. Plus Saad had a great postseason the year before he signed if I recall

Reinhart has just been a steady top 6'er. I still think they 1-year it when all is said and done

yeah he won it two years earlier. I can see it entering negotiations, but the Panthers had two more years of data on him. So it's not just some knee jerk "well you won it so here's an extra million."

There's plenty of factors beyond the scoreboard, but I'd be willing to bet the negotiations start around 4-5 million.

Yeah. I've been to development camps and Amerks games where the guy is totally invisible. Maybe Gerbe's "he'll be better in the NHL" thing is right, idk. I have very little optimism

I dont think anyone would trade away the chance pre lottery, but their pick has a ton more value now than it will sunday if it stays the same and doesnt move up. Feast or famine pre lottery.

I agree that the Huberdeau comparison is the most accurate. They've achieved about the same and have steadily grown their games on the wing. I'd bet on a multi year deal, but I could make an argument for both.

A healthy season next year is imperative for the organization to grade his development. Hopefully we get to see what he can do.
